I just picked up a Thule 422XT from CL. And a set of the XK1 adapters. Does anyone have advise on how to get the bases & adapters to sit in the rails correctly?

It seems as the adapters are sitting to high with the bases level. When I do get the adapters to sit in the rail the bases are tipped inward.

I saw that some took the rubber off the bases. I'd rather no do that. I know these racks fit. Just getting frustrated.

So I got the rack mounted for the most part. The clamps nearest the tailgate don't want to sit in the rail all the way. But they feel sturdy.

How easy should these be to raise & lower? Mine are extremely tight. Is this correct?
