My wife has trouble letting the tailgate down and I was interested in a tailgate assist for my '09 Taco. I have seen a posting or two about tailgate assist but I can't find if one has been done on an '09. I don't know if there is any difference between the '05 - '08 or not.

Some have had issues with the cable chafing and some had trouble getting the Torx bolts loose. I got all of my bolts loose, now looking for an assist kit.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Rick

I think the only difference between the 08 and 09 tailgates is the camera by the latch and the cable that runs from the gate to the bed for the camera

This is what the bolts look like on my '09. Any one know what the shiny clip behind the top cable bolt does? I wonder if something is going to fall off inside the fender if I take the bolt out all of the way.

I think that shiny clip just keeps the cable end from chaffing away at the composite bed when it rotates everytime you open/close the tailgate.

correct. that clip behind the bolt is kinda like a place setter, it will not fall behind when unbolted. That Dee Zee Part number should fit an 09 with no problems, as stated before the only difference in the tailgate is the addition of the camera.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt' think the clip would fall inside but was concerned that maybe there was something else on the inside like a nut or something.

Also, I don't believe the pipe clamp on the left side of the tailgate will do anything. Many have put them on the right side to deter thieves but I don't think the left side does anything.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I originally had one on the left side but took it off.

What did the 5 fingers say to the face?

    S-L-A-P!

They work pretty good its the same concept of hood struts or the struts on a trunk lid but in reverse.........

Autoanything.com has the same 43601 part number for an '05.
