How common is this for a 2 year old Tacoma with 18K miles? I just bought it "certified" last week.

Looks like the previous owner took zero care to keep it clean and rust free so it makes me wonder about the rest of the truck.

I'm in NJ and my 08' with 94k looks MUCH better than that.

You sure the ODO reading is correct? Its super easy to unplug them on these trucks so they register zero mileage - what I'm saying is that truck looks to have much more corrosion on it than 18k worth.

Is that Torx bolt from the tailgate? I noticed mine were beginning to rust and they are less than 2 years old (got new bed and tailgate in Oct 2012). I just sprayed them with some Fluid Film.

It came from Pennsylvania originally. I first noticed the bolts in the bed after bringing the truck home, which were snow covered when I test drove the truck. Then I started looking underneath and found much more. I know it's "buyer beware but being Certified Used, I don't think this should have passed. I think the mileageis accurate, at least according to the carfax that I received with the vehicle.

Carfax is worthless for anyone who knows anything about cars and is looking to get over on people. How would it know the mileage? How would it know about unreported accidents?

I have been in three accidents in my truck and my carfax is completely clear. I also could of had my odometer disconnected for the past three years and no one would know except me. You need to look for abnormal wear and other issues not depend on some website Fox.

Rusty leaf springs are a joke so forget about them being replaced by Yota. The bed bolts tend to rust after being scrapped by stuff going in out of the bed and after all it's a truck so Yota won't do anything there either. The axles in the rear are rusty but has nothing to do with performance so again - nothing to be done.

I'm not sure why it's Toyotas fault you bought a rusty truck? Did you expect them to replace the parts before they sell a 2 year old truck?

    Said what?

I told you about carfax and asked you simple questions.

    Some stuff...
Take it back in, the stealership might bust off the rust and give you a free undercoating. I dunno, but it's always worth a shot - especially if you literally just bought it last week.

    Good luck.

Seems a bit aggresive for 2 years but my truck had heavy surface rust pretty much everywhere on the under carriage after the first 2 winters

Someone never washed that truck. I live in upstate NY I've had my 2009 since it was new and the surface rust isn't that bad. From your pictures it appears to be just surface rust nothing the would stop it from being sold as certified used, your truck isn't going to fall next week or anything.

I would at least take it to a dealership to get it documented. Then scrape/paint/fluidfilm and forget about it!

+1 here in Québec. Salty roads all winter long. I'm washing it often and have treatment against rust every year at the end of summer.

Did you claim with the Insurance Companies? If not then how the heck do you expect CarFax to know?

Have you TRIED to unplug or rollback the ODO on these new vehicles? Not a simple task though.

OP...My '12 with 25k miles in Nebraska does NOT look that bad. Have it taken care of. Good luck.
