    Good evening,
What is the easiest way to replace my lighter/power supply? I plugged in a 12V compressor and now I am blowing fuses.
    Thx:mad:

Is it blowing fuses all the time or just when you plug in your compressor? Did something get stuck in the outlet that's causing it to short out?

Something's causing the short. Shouldn't have to go through the hassle of supplying a new power source.

    Unplug the compressor.

What is the current rating of the compressor you are plugging in? The power outlets are only fused at 15 Amperes. If your compressor draws more than that ( or even equal to that ) it will blow the fuse.

Look inside your power outlet and check for a foreign object..Like a coin. Maybe something fell inside there. Your cigarette lighter element IS a short. That's why it gets hot. That's a pretty high amp circuit. I cant see a little compressor drawing more unless there is an issue with it.

I removed the lighter assembly and took it apart and it did not seem to have any damage. I put 12V to it and it is shorted out. I left is disconnected. I replaced the fuse and my power outlet is working. Don't get it. I do not see any damage ...but there is? Need a new assembly...$26.00..expensive bike ride. Thanks to all

The lighter element is not a short. It has resistance and is a heater.

Like a heater element or a light bulb filament. A CONTROLLED short.

x2. This is the likely scenario. Does it blow with a phone charger?

Disconnected the lighter assembly new fuse power source works fine. Do I need to remove the console to get to the plug to install the new assembly??

Yes. Along with the panels under the steering wheel. There are several panels that will need to come out to get to the Power Point Sockets. I know someone did a write up about it, but I cannot seem to locate it at the moment.

Try searching in the audio video forum also.
