Thanks again for the feedback. Right now there are about 25 2014 Tacomas on all the Dealer lots in this area and most of them are 4x4 V6 crew cabs. I guess the Mid West gets last choice. I'll have to keep looking or just get a base model. The dealer here told me they stopped production of the 2 x 4 Prerunner and you can only get what's on the ground. They had one lined up for me, then back out, saying they didn't have a comparable truck to trade them. How lame is that? Customer satisfaction or what? Ha,,,,, I'm goin to another dealer or get a used 2013 somewhere close. Later,,,,,

OME 885 with 5100's in front, TSB and AAL with 5125's in back. 30" light bar in the valance.
The TRD 4x2's are called Prerunners. They have a better suspension that the base model plus all the Bells and whistles that come on the TRD's.

Same here; had to order my '12 prerunner sr5/tow. Dealer said they weren't typically ordered for mid-atlantic toyota dealers, I checked all over and the closest one was in Ohio which is out of the DX area. A few were available with the convenience package but that's all. The order worked smoothly and the great thing is that just before the truck arrived in early January, a $500 rebate hit. :))).

find a dealer to take your order and should do it quickly; you may not have much negotiating room as it's not on the lot, but my dealer took my order for 100 below invoice with the caution that they wouldn't guarantee price on a future build. Be aware that the 4cyl may take a couble of months if they only have a couple production runs for the 4cyl left in the year. (my v6 took 7 weeks)
dealers just want to push what's on the lot.
    good luck.

10-4 on the updates. TacoDeLapLaya hit it right on the head, the prerunner just sits up
higher than a base model. I guess if I want one in this area, I"ll have to order. I hope my 2005 base holds out. MJR, what's the specs on model 7162 ? Thanks guys,,,,,,

Look here for specs from Toyota site (((( note mistake on wheels / prerunner will have 16 and not 15 as site says)))).

Thanks for the spec sheet MJR, 16" wheels. Fletch, how's Beavis doing? That's going back a ways now (Beavis-Butthead). I'm 65. Off to another dealer tomorrow I think. Probably order one. Sorry Beavis, I'm on a fixed retirement income. Maybe I should hitch-hike. Thanks fellas............

Just wondering if anyone knows the origin of the term 4x4. Since I heard it decades ago, I always understood it to be 4-Speed with 4WD. I guess I now have a 6x4.

    1st 4.....4 wheels. 2nd 4....All wheels turn independently.

4x2 means only two tires drive the vehicle. This can be front or rear wheel drive vehicles.

All wheel drive means both front and back drive but are dependant on each other.

This is at least how I have interpreted it.

I don't understand why anyone would sign up for the MPG penalty and more expensive tires minus the awesomeness of 4WD. I like normal 2WD Tacomas because they're practical, they get good MPG and the tires are cheap compared to a 4x4. They have a lot of advantages even though they suck for winter driving. 4x4 Tacomas are cool because the 4WD gives you a whole new world of fun recreational activities in exchange for worse MPG and more expensive tires. Prerunners have the disadvantages of both.

4x4's have to get expensive tires. Since when was that statement true?

    Tirerack says:

    Yokohama Geolandar, 215/70-15, $97
    Yokohama Geolandar, 265/70-16, $142

$180 difference. I wouldn't call it an "expensive" difference, but I have to spend a long day at work to land that much cash in my pocket...
