4wd making clicking sound

So got a bit of snow here in ohio I engage my 4x4 and hear a clicking cound as I move like a card in a bikes tires but not very loudly any ideas?

 

Are you getting a solid light on the dash indicating you are in 4X4 ?
have you tried 4X4 low to see if it makes the same sound

 

Maybe a CV joint? Boots in ok shape?

 

This is a good idea.

 

Usually when a CV joint clicks, it's time to replace.

 

I beleive the CV joints spin all the time and would also click in 2 wheel drive Though they are not under load in 2wd , turning corners would indicate outboard cv joints are faulty and when under load in 4X4 the inboards as well as outboards would possibly be noisy .

Guessing that he has a bad actuator and its only partially applying on the front axle . We will see

 

Haven't checked in 4 low one of my buddies also suggested the cv as well guess it's gonna be a trip to the mechanics tomorrow. I just recently bought the truck and only has 45000 miles but have put it thru enough already to know I don't want it to stay stock

 

Would be worth checking your transfer case and front diff fluid levels.

 

For what its worth , go outside and select 4X4 . Do you get any lights on the dash showing the truck is actually in 4X4
Where is the sound coming from ? front end , or below your seat ?

Sound is from the front end it's a sold light so it is in 4 wheel and I put it I'm low and you can defiantly tell it's in 4 lo and still makes the sound

 

I am going with the actuator .

So once I was able to get under the truck in a garage saw there was some small tree limbs caught under the truck and was rubbing the drive shaft lol typical
