    Hi Everyone,

I have a 2009 TRD Sport Prerunner and I'm looking for as much info on installing a rear locker as possible. I rarely do much off roading nor do I plan to, but there's a few places around NM that I'd like to have a locker just in case I need it.

So can I track down a rear locker on a TRD Off Road that's being salvaged and take it off of it as just a 3rd member to drop into mine? (which years will work? i've found contrasting info on the 8" vs. 8.4" but I was hoping it would be as easy as taking it out of another taco) Is this possible or do I need the entire rear axle to swap out? I have the auto lsd, not mechanical in my 09, so it won't exactly be swapping one for the other. And shouldn't my truck already be mostly wired for it so the wiring won't be too much of a pain?
I notice the space available next to my VSC off button on my steering column, but i obviously don't have the Off Road so the RR Locker just isn't there.

I appreciate any help and advice with this. Even help hunting the eLocker down maybe through someone here on TW because I'm not sure how easily I'll be able to find one in a random junk yard here in Abq, NM.

    Thanks!!!

You'll need to swap the whole axle & wiring harness.

Yeah, it's an axle swap - the locking third is a different bolt pattern on the axle housing.

But others on TW have created a "synthetic" wiring harness for simply engaging the locker on its own dedicated switch - and that's going to be simpler than trying to electrically replicating the entire TRD-offroad hookup.

Just get an arb air locker. It will be cheaper and far stronger.

The e locker is an 8" ring gear, and the sport/all others is an 8.4". Just get an arb, cheaper, possibly more reliable, as it will be brand new, not from a wrecker.
