I have a stock 2010 DCSB sport 4x4 and am planning on putting on some bilstein 5100s either just up front or all the way around and maybe an aal on the rear.

I've seen many threads about this same topic, but I figured this would be the fastest way to get my question answered.

When it comes to tire size, it sounds like 265/70/17 is the largest I can run even with a small level up front if I want no rubbing. I would like to confirm this with either pictures or personal experience. I will do some moderate off-roading (enough to send the tire all the way in the wheel-well). I had a problem on my previous vehicle with the tire catching the fender and pulling it out when it would go up into the wheel well. I do not want this to happen but I want to run the largest size possible without that happening.

When it comes to tires, I know the more common sizes are either 265/70/17 and 285/70/17, but these are very different sizes so I do not know how they would perform with just leveling. My tire options right now are: Kelly safari TSRs, BF Goodrich KO A/Ts, and Cooper Discoverer STTs.

I'm open to any suggestions on tires or lifts, but I do not want to add a diff drop up front and do not really want to do blocks in the rear so basically I want to stay under 3" of lift.

I've had great performance out of the Kelly Safari TSRs off road and I've always heard great things about the BF Goodrich's but do not know what to expect with the Coopers.

I know its a long post, but I know what I wanted to ask so I made it simple for you guys. Thanks!

look at the difference in the size of the shock bodies between what you have now and the 5100's,much bigger than the "black or blue/yellow"...i'd be inclined to go with a full set.as far as tires, you'll get pros and cons whatever you choose.a new trend in tires is "silca based compound",supposedly less rolling resistantce(cooper/mastercraft).if you go beyond a"AT" type tire,be prepared for more noise, shorter tread life, probably not objectionaly so,but more none the less.if you plan to lift with the 5100's,you'll have stock,.85,1.75,2.5 in. of lift on your stock springs.some guys go for EIBACH springs at stock height or .85,eibachs will give you 1.6in.of lift, pair that with the 5100's at .85 and you're just under 3in.,might need new UCA'S,maybe not.the big bugaboo is alingment,if it's not right your truck will be "floaty",dead feel on center and twitchy...not good.if you lift with stock springs,be aware that you're"preloading",but BILSTEIN says that has been taken into account and there shouldn't be a problem,i think the stock springs are 540 lb/in and the EIBACHS are 600 lbs/in(or 620),but since it's a longer spring, that's where your lift comes from...currently i'm on 5100's all around, fronts @ .85(stock springs) with TSB rear leaf pack,my truck rides"sporty",much better than stock.my tires are nitto tg's(265-65-17),i debated going to the 265-70-17,but stayed with the stock size for less of a hit on gas mpg, some say the 70 series rub, some say they don't,but the 65 series sidewall doesn't rub at all...my wheels are 17x8(4.5bs,0 offset),the stock 17in wheels have 5.5 in bs,so i'm sticking out an extra inch on both sides.if i had a do-over,i'd go with 5100's and eibachs at stock ride height, with 5160's in the rear.

I don't even have a lift on mine and am loving my 255/75/17's they gave it a more aggressive stance and handle better off road. Once I get my lift on after we get out of this arctic chill I will probably upgrade to the cooper st maxx 255/80/17.

Yea right now I would set the 5100s to .85 and see how it looks because I don't want it to be nose high but I would like the nose a little higher than stock. I'll have to look into those eibachs, haven't heard too much about them but that sounds like a good idea also. Thanks for the help.

My only fear with the 255s was them looking too skinny. I didn't want to go skinnier than stock, if anything wider, but those don't really look any skinnier than stock. It must be the trail grapplers that make it look a little wider but that's a great set up.

Exactly the set up I was planning to do. Thanks for the pictures. Does the ride right replace the leaf springs or is it just an addition to them?

I haven't checked that size, but its also a little bigger than 265/70/17 so it may cause more rubbing than I would like.

Just checked out that review and I've never even heard of those tires but they sound like a great option. I'll definitely consider those.

265/75/16 fits on stock suspension, I like the 75 better than 70, it fills out the wheel well better.

I was referring to 17 in. rims which 265/75/16 is basically the same size as 265/70/17 so thats what I'll probably end up going with.

the 255 are 10mm narrower, not much if you're just eyeballin....less wheel backspace would set them out more and maybe give you the look you desire with the 255's...plus the added bonus of less rolling resistance(but not much) and possibly lower weight, which could add up to better mpg...sure, the 285's look sweet on a tacoma...but for me it was a bit impractial(can't believe i said that, dang,i'm old).

I noticed you have the 5100s front and rear and have the rear tsb with the front 5100s set at .85. Do you have a picture of your truck because I would like to see the difference between the 1.75 posted earlier. Also if you got your tsb done in Birmingham, where did you have it done? Thanks.
