New member here! I just bought my 2007 Prerunner SR5 tacoma. The truck has only 22,000 miles on it and I have a minor concern about it. In the mornings when I go to start the truck or after its been sitting for more than 2+ hours it takes 2-3 seconds for it to fire up while turning the key. When I had the oil changed the technician told me I should have the spark plugs changed closer to 30,000 miles. Could the spark plugs be the issue?
    Thank you

2-3 seconds is not long at all... If it still has the factory battery it could have possibly lost some cold cranking amps over the last 7 years.

Edit: Oh yea and welcome to TW :)

Counting in my head while making the cranking noise, 2-3 seconds seems long. Maybe I'm just being paranoid with my new truck haha. I didn't factor the battery in either. The truck was driven by an older man who let it sit for weeks at a time so it could definitely be the battery. Thanks

my 08 with 216,000 kms (130ish miles) does the same thing. when i changed the battery it never made a difference. asked the dealer and after driving other tacomas at work it seems to be normal that they crank longer than other vehicles.

never left me stranded or failed to start so doesnt seem to be an issue.

I put a lot more battery than I needed in my truck and the timing sounds about the same. I don't know about the timing exactly, but when I turn the key it's usually two lunging sounds then it fires with the third. It's really hard to type those sounds lol.

I also have a 2007. A few years ago I went out one morning to crank it and nothing. Battery was slap dead. Might want to make that investment before it makes for a bad day.

    Welcome to TW.

Could also be the record low temps in AL that you have right now. Overall, not a long time to crank in cold weather. Once it warms up, you will probably notice a slight improvement in time.

It takes me about 2 to 3 seconds. But it's also below freezing here

Low temperature has a huge affect on the cranking amp performance and capacity of a battery. See the Temperature vs. CCA diagram in Section 7.3 on the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org. Driving habits (short trips or non use), can cause sulfation to accumulate on the plates which also affects performance and capacity. See Section 16 for more information.
