    Hi guys,

Been searching to see if anyone has suggestions on how to get a 100lbs Golden retriever up into your truck. I did some searches and the best I could see was http://boosterbath.com/products/booster-step but I need to measure to see if it's high enough to reach my tailgate when it's down.

He's getting a bit older (8 now in human years..) and he used to do a quick lap and leap into the truck bed. Now he does the lap...and just looks for the treat. Then I lean over and perform a squat lift with him in my arms. The same when I need to get him out. He just gives me a look like he's saying...WTF dude...

    Thanks,
    Scott

I would start with getting a 2"x8" or something like that and use it as a ramp and see if he can use it to get in the truck.

Ya...he's a beast. I think his head weighs 30lbs on its own. He's not over weight, just a big thick hair ball of a dog.

I was thinking of making something, but was hoping someone has or heard of a nice portable unit I could use.

Yeah mine is a hoss too, lab and great dane mix. He is around 105 depending if he took a dump or not. He will put his front legs up and then look back like..ok, your turn. He turns 7 this month. I miss my big/little puppy.

Hey guys, bought one of these for my old lab (11 yrs). Not as big as yours but similar situation where he used to jump in and out when younger. Younger lab (5yrs) still wants to jump in and out but getting him used to using it.

Works pretty well and seems well built. Got it at Costco Canada. Not sure if it is stocked in US. Good height for standard height trucks and folds for storage.

Nice. Found it on Amazon...and it's Prime. $132 bucks.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

That's what I have to use for my older lab. She does not like steps for some reason.
Mine is only 58 pounds, but I still don't like having to pick her up every time.lol

For 100+ dollars, I will just pick my dog up and help him out but then again I am a young whipper snapper that is still able to at the moment lol. I understand the need but that is a lot of money just to load up in the truck. An 8ft 2X8 board is only ~15 dollars if you need a ramp. Heck, a piece of plywood is less than $30 and will also work great.

Totally agree. However, my wife has a different view. Something light...something easy to use..Cost to her has never been an issue :(

And for me my hamstrings are not what they used to be! Damn dog...

An 18"wide piece of plywood would be reasonably light.

Solve the problem by letting him ride in the cab where he's safe.

edit: I just did the math. That plastic dog ramp weighs 18 lb. A 6 foot piece of plywood 18" wide weighs 21 lbs. So, for 3 lbs ya can save $100.

I ended up going with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IWYPXK/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Looks to be as good as the $130 plus one and it's a longer ramp. Should work on my lifted tail gate and also her MDX.

I know...$73 bucks for a ramp....Dozer (beast of a Golden Retriever) better like it.

I'll let you guys know how it works out. Should be here by Friday.
