I'm thinking of also getting roof rails when I order my sidesteps and weathertechs. I'm leaning toward the OEM version. I need one for all around use. But also would like to hear opinions and suggestions.

I have the OEM ones and I like them, but they have a tendency to get gummed up with ice and become useless. Not sure where you live but you may want to take that into consideration.

Are you talking about the raised rails that the cross bars would attach to?

If so, what are you going to use them for? I have read many posts about the factory cross bars bending under the weight of a canoe and what not. If just for looks and maybe the occasional snowboard or something, I do think the OEM rails and bars look the best.

Well the roof on my Taco is slick - nothing's there so I need everything. I will be carry 1-3 kayaks and who knows what else. So I don't want it to be too cheap. The stock ones will probably do. Are there better cross rails that attach to the roof mounts?

Yakima & Thule make cross bars and mounts that will work with the factory rails. I would start there.

Not sure where you are at but Rack Attack is awesome. They have a place in Boston Mass. & Portland Oregon. These guys know everything to know about racks. Most sporting goods stores have guys who know enough to get buy, maybe one training session with the racks, but at RackAttack they only do Thule & Yakima and other roof rack brands. Check out there website and call a store to chat with them.

None at this time and that's just what I wanted a stock used truck to start with
I'm in the same boat looking for some racks. But I do not like the look of the factory oem racks. Plus I would rather have something that just clamped onto the cab and drip rail area. I would be using it for snow boards and a possible basket for hunting. I would want to be able to take racks off easily that's why I want clamp ons but I don't know witch ones

I have Yakima Q towers and cross bars. I have a Loadwarrior basket and will be getting a snowboard holder next year. I will probably get a CVT with the group buy going on now and it will go on the cross bars over the cab until I get a canopy. I prefer Yakima but I think Thule is a great brand. They are spendy but my Yakima set up is damn near 7 years old. With the Q Towers you just buy new Q Clips if you change vehicles. Seriously tho, anyone looking but needs guidance talk with the guys at RackAttack.com

They also sometimes have used gear for sale so sometimes you can get a good discount.

    none yet

Expect to get your tippytoes/heels some exercise with the OEM sidesteps. I hated my OEM because it's only function is to collect snow/nice in my neck of the wood. I could only get my tippy toies/heel on it while I get in and out of the truck. I took'em off and bought a 4" after-market nerf bar and that seem to work a lot better :D.
