Replaced the Oil...whoa!
Replaced the oil yesterday for the first time on the truck with 3,973 miles on it. First thing I noticed is that the location of the oil bolt and filter are in the best place with the most easy access I have ever done in doing oil changes on my cars and trucks in 24 years. Did my wife's Civic and my Honda Shadow also.
BUT! What the Hell was Toyota thinking torquing the frickin oil filter to 8,000 lbs's with a Hemimemtic seal on it?! ![]() Seriously...was that unecessary or do they have some sort of purpose for that? I bent my oil filter wrench getting it off. I read in other places (this board as well as Toyota Nation) that others have had the same problems. I'm glad I read these boards first or I would have though it was a non-removable filter or some shit like that. ![]() Lastly, does anyone know why they do this replaceable washer for the drain bolt? First time I've ever had to do that. Well, next time it'll be a breeze. |

hey man, i feel your pain for the filter being so damn tight!!! the first time i changed oil in my prerunner after the previous service was done by toyota......holy crap!! i had to put a screwdriver straight thru the filter to loosen it!! you are right though, the next one will be a breeze! and i agree about the drain plug and filter location......makes these oil changes easy as pie!! and you can actually reuse the "drain plug gasket" again......just dont tighten the shit outta it!

mine was just as tight as well..i wrestled with it for 20 min.. i made sure when i put my new one on ( an amsoil one) that i just hand tightened it. i dont want to have to wrestle it again.

filter goes on dry at the factory..1st ons always a mother...Drain plug ring is a one time thing or crush washer...I dont recomend reusing them...The tight fit comes from distorting the ring and not stretching the threads reuse the ring enough and guess what????? Yep, a nice new oil pan!

That is the reason a replaced my drain bolt with a Fumoto...I can't ever remember changing the oil in any vehicle where the oil discharged at such a high rate. The Fumoto is a snap..lift the level, draining the oil is snap, it's quick, and best off all.. no mess.

Yes...there is a group buy over at TN, hence the reason for the "YM4" code at checkout(10& discount). This is the same discount code thats been active on bobtheoilguy.com for quite some time.

I just installed it on my last oil change. Yes, it does drain somewhat slower than the original drain plug (due to the opening being a little smaller) however, if you warm the oil prior to changing it, the additional time is minimal. The best feature, of course, is the "no mess" and not having to replace the crush washer. IMO, well worth the 20 bucks.

I agree... The performance of Amsoil's 0W-30 2000 series oil is hard to beat. In addition, when running it conjunction with the EaO series microglass filters, it's an impressive combined series with excellent UAO(oil analysis) numbers.
