Nope, they are basically unchanged. The TRD pro line was listed as 2015 models.

No changes until at least model year 16.

i had a 4cyl and took it cross country 8 times and up and down the west, including the Salt Lake to Tahoe/San Fran trip. It would struggle up some mountain passes but always made it. Never felt like there was a problem with the power in the 8 years I owned it.

Now I have a 6cyl. And now I realize that the 4 was way underpowerd but I just never knew it.

Also - get the manual if you go 4 and auto if you go 6.

I had the 2.7 liter 4cyl in my 2001 singlecab. It had enough power for that little truck.
    I have the v6 in my 2014 DC 4x4.

For a doublecab you should get the v6 or I think it will feel underpowered, regardless of whether or not it's 4x4.

Thanks...I'm going auto since I'll have it in San Francisco sometimes. Do you see a big difference in the mpg?

2015 is the same truck as 2014. See 2015 TRD Pro.

Also is there much difference between DCSB and AC in weight? Probably minimal, so I would think MPG hit would be minimal as well. So maybe mpg comparison to 4 cyl AC auto will be pretty close, no? 5spd would be probably better but no such truck available in DC.

Ok - alot of talk from alot of people that dont actually drive a 4cylinder Double Cab ---- well I have owned Two of them.

A 2011 that I put about 25k on and then a Dodge Ram 3500 Dually decided to test the strength of this truck by running into the back of it. Tacoma took the hit like a beast.

It was a great truck so I got the exact same truck in a 2012 Model ..... I just hit 30k on it and it runs great.

I wont lie and say that im going to win any races with it, but it does its job. It is sluggish up hills and when entering the freeway but you cant be scared of it - downshift or press the gas, it will take off and you will feel the power of the 4cyclinder.

i trust this truck and the 4 cyclinder engine under the hood for the simple fact that the 4 cyclinder is the tried and true toyota engine that (knock on wood) refuses to die.

I use it for everything and it does what it needs to do - i have a heay foot as well. i cant honestly compare it to a v6 since I have never put the miles of a V6 that I have on a 4cyclinder.

theres my 2 cents for what its worth.
Best of luck in your decision.

In good conditions, the 4 would get 22 all day on the highway. But it was much more susceptible to the weather and terrain. If there were hills, then it would drop substantially. Also, I can remember driving west on the interstate through south dakota where there was a big headwind. I had it floored in 3rd or 4th gear just to maintain 45-50 mph and was getting about 13-14 mpgs. I kept getting passed by big full size v8s that were probably getting the same mpgs but were going 80mph like it was no problem.

Also, I had a big heavy old camper in it for a while and only got like 12 mpgs with that thing.

I don't really track mpgs with my 6, but its probably between 17-21 based on how many miles I get out of an average tank. I wouldn't make the choice based on mpgs though. If you were to drive 20,000 miles at 22 mpg you would spend $3,636 per year assuming $4 gas. 20,000 miles at 18mpg you woud spend $4,444 per year. Not a big enough difference in my opinion to make it a determinative factor in the decision, especially if you are buying new.

The way things are looking as of now the 2015s will carry on the same body style with minimal, if any, changes.
However I would put money on the body style/powertrains changing within the next 3 years. Most likely the 2016 Model Year. This body style is tired and is already past Toyota's typical life for a body style. I think we would've already seen another one were it not for the earthquake/tsunami and the economic downturn.

I would bet the body styles change in the next few years as more mid size trucks enter the market.

    Pretty much stock
I had a 09 accesscab 4x4 2.7 5-speed, i get better real world gas mileage with my 13 4.0 DC prerunner. Plus its much more enjoyable to drive and you don't have to beat on it so hard to get decent performance out of it.

    LOL V4 :D

BTW to the OP. I just drove my buddies 2014 DC prerunner. What a slug going up a hill or a on ramp for the freeway. I felt it was sluggish off the line. When I got into my 2013 DC V6.... WOW what a difference!!! Night and day difference. My buddy says he gets 22-23 highway. I don't think I won't be happy for a 1-2 mpg increase. He paid about $24k for his which is a good price. He's happy with the truck for now. We will see down the road. :)

I have a reg cab 4x4, 5spd. The small engine is fine in it, adequate but far from overpowered. Cheaper to buy and slightly better mpg means that long term cost of ownership will be lower, but at the cost of not being able to tow heavy loads and giving up a lot of acceleration.

The heavier the truck, the less I'd be inclined to go with the four.

Fuelly will show you mpg reports for the configurations you are considering.

HP can be like a parachute- if its not there when you need it, you may never need it again.

Get the most you can afford, especially if you get a double cab and have 'well fed' friends.

The I4 is best in the regular cab, which weighs something like 400 lbs less than the access or double cab.

I would never buy the V6. But I also would never buy a access or double cab.

I get 23 mpg average with my I4 FYI. Which beats 18 mpg in the V6 if you ask me.

Sure he used the wrong letter in front of the 4 but you're all laughing like a V4 doesn't exist. Try telling that to Aprilia, Ducati, and KTM to name a few.

I've had my Access Cab Prerunner 2.7/Auto since August and I love it. I don't off-road, I don't tow anything, or haul heavy loads, so the power train combo was a great choice for me. I'm a bit of a "pickup purist" so anything with more than 2 doors was out of the question. I realize the Access Cab has more than 2 doors, but I also wanted the Prerunner, so the Access Cab it Was. Besides that, the extra cab size is a plus. I have no problem recommending the 2.7.

And on the other topic (V4), Ford of England had a V4 that Saab purchased and installed in their cars. It was a replacement for the old 2 stroke that was their original engine.

Hey op, if u will be in sf a lot be aware these trucks are long and don't fit in spots a smaller car would. I prefer to take my wife's car to the city, and wouldn't own my truck if I lived in sf. I will say that the truck is easy to parrell park tho. Back up camera is a life saver.

Also be aware that URD does make a supercharger kit for the 4 cylinder which boosts the power quite a bit with the stage 2 pulley. However it doesn't sound like it's emissions compliant if you live somewhere with testing.
