Thank you. I have know about this just as long as it has been changed. Articles sprung up everywhere. From Popular Mechanics to Muscle Car mags. People tend not to believe the info unless there is a referenced article.

For this reason is why I always add a half bottle of Redline's Engine Break-in oil ZDDP additive. As well as a minimum 40 weight. Manufacturers and EPA care about their rules. Not your engine. You've got to knowledge up and protect your investment.
Can't agree. He's kinda been through the ringer, and deserves everything he asks for, within reason. I'd cry right now if something happened to my truck, with all the time I've spent on it. We add the little things to make it better, but they add up. Plus I bought used at 20k, not new at 30 plus. Good luck OP in all of your wishes, we're pulling for you.
Actually no. He deserves a replacement for his vehicle and nothing more.

Just wanted to post 2 videos of my truck. The first is when it was brand new, the second is at 16k miles and 3 oil changes with Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic. The noise has changed a bit but as you can see still there. Will be taking it to the dealer but I'm apprehensive because I know they are just going to say its normal.

My 2007 make a similar noise just not as pronounced as that. It hasn't gotten any louder since I bought the truck with 51K on it. It now has 85K on it. I think it is power steering related in mine but the pitch doesn't change when moving the steering wheel.

It does not matter IMO. I think the question is, are you willing to risk it?

Well its not that I want to risk it but I'm almost certain my dealership is just gonna tell me the noise is ok . So then I must decide to sell the truck or live with it , what sucks is not knowing if it's just a noisy oil pump or is it the motor creating friction due to weak oil pump not building pressure in time

Yes they don't know what it is or why it does it or where it comes from, but for certain they will say its normal lol. Not sure what to tell you, I was already looking into F150s and Tundras when I was fighting them, I was willing to lose some $ to get rid of that POS, but was happy I won and was able to stay in a Tacoma.

I had my buddy who is a toyota parts manager and to look up the tacoma oil pump it's actually a oil rotor part and oil cover part and they have been the same part from 2005 till now so I don't think the oil pump is the issue I think all the swapping parts and the one guy got lucky in fixing his noise . I also searched public fact cheak and there hasn't been any of these Gen tacomas with oil pump failure or engine failure to due oil pump so I guess just keep driving it then maybe when warranty is out think about selling

Pump may be the same, but manufacturer may have changed, but yeah at the end is up to each one to decide what to do about it.

So did your original engine ever break down , I'm just wondering since mine makes this noise also when they tore the engine apart did they find any worn parts pistons, rings,bearings,etc....

Happy, does your truck still do this sound I ask because my 14 does it and km finding out a hole bunch of them do it . I just don't know if I schould be concerned about it most people say it's just loud and irritating but no harm is being done . Either way mine will do it after sitting all night when it's cold then it stops before I get out of my nieghborhood

So in your opinion is it damaging the chain or if you just wait and let it warm up and stop then drive it maybe it will be fine

Are you saying the cold start noise a lot of us are experiencing untill it starts to warm up is piston slap? And is that fairly normal

I have to agree with you on this . One reason is I work two jobs and have a young child and don't have time to mess with it and two this noisy motor has been doing stuff like this for some time now and you don't hear about a bunch or any actually newer tacos blowing up from low oil pressure so chalk it up to another wierd noise
