Might get into one

Hey everyone

I have been thinking of trading in my Dodge Ram for a 4 Door T2wd Tacoma. I have not decided with either a 4 or 6 cylinder but how many miles can go on a tank for both engines?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

 

I have a 07 dc lb 4X4 and I was getting 15-18, and after an Intake and exhaust I get 17-19. I have never gotten an average of 20mpgs or more, over the 19,000 miles I have on the truck. 2wd might be a little better, but somewhere around the same average.

 

So is it safe to say filling up on 18 or 19 gallons gets you about 320 miles? I am really impresed about the mpg these trucks get. Hell anything is better than 11 mpg, like what I'm use to.

 

I typically get around 300 miles on a tank with an 07 double cab 4x4 V6. I also get 17-19 depending on how much city vs highway driving I do on that tank of gas. I could probably get a bit more if I let the tank run lower before filling up. The trucks have 21 gallon tanks. The mileage is what initially got me into the dealership to look at the Tacoma. Once I drove one it was all over. My neighbor is trying to get rid of his Dodge Ram too. He can no longer afford the gas. He also gets terrible mileage.

 

Are you sure that these have 21 gallon tanks? I always thought they were 18 gallon tanks.

I've got the '07 4L double cab 2wd prerunner. I was disappointed with my first tank at 15.5 mpg, but that included some test drives (maybe I should throw out that data, but if I do that, then I won't have anything). I'm almost at half on my second tank, but the way things are looking I won't be doing much better -- 1-2 mpg better. It's 90% city driving with AC on about 75% of the time. I'm not too happy with it yet, but I understand the first few thousand miles are for self-calibration. I'm jealous of these guys I hear getting 20 mpg with a similar rig to mine. I'm seriously considering that secondary air filter removal, since it's free.

 

I have 23,000 miles on my 2.7L 4 cylinder. I get about 400-430 miles before I fill up. I average 24 MPG on the highway, and 21 MPG in the city. When I haul with a trailer and a full bed, the worst I have gotten is 16 MPG.

One bad thing about getting a 4 cylinder, if you want a four door then you have to get a V6. Toyota only offered a four door 4 cylinder Tacoma in 2001 and 2002, and it was only offered in 2WD.

 

Appreciate all the feedback everyone... I am impressed with what the aftermarket intakes can do on these trucks yet shocked on how the factory one is so restrictive. But I guess thats whats going to make modding so much fun.

 

The older tacos' had 18gal tanks, newer ones have 21.

I have 1000 miles on my new '07 4wd DC and have gotten 19.8 on both tanks. Hopefully it'll loosen up a bit.

Mine is 90% highway

 

i get about 18 to 20 mpg with my v6 and about 350 miles per tank. and yes, it is a 21 gallon tank
