Guys, I cant tell from Toyota's website. How does the traction control button work on the SR5? How does the SR5's traction work with no lockers (LSD etc?). TY.

Meh, I think I answered my own question. Found it in the brochure. Looks like VSC is standard. FYI:

Star Safety System™ — includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC),
    13
    Traction Control (TRAC),
Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA)
    14
    and Smart Stop Technology

    That thread covers 2009-2011.

In 2012 they added a 10th drive mode choice (TRAC in H4 with engine regulation, and the more powerful mode in H4 is now called TRAC OFF and requires a quick push of the button).

Here is the newer thread for 2009 to 2014 traction controls: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/310726-traction-controls-2009-2014-a.html

So if I enter a beach or am driving on a snowy road:
    1) Switch to H4 with TRAC and VSC on?
    2) If wheels start to spin, turn VSC off quickly, and if I end up getting stuck, then turn off VSC and TRAC to get out?

And if I am riding normally in the street on a sunny day:
    1) H2 with TRAC on?

I hope this is right lol? So when would I want to use:
    1) H2 with auto LSD
    2) H2 with VSC off?
    3) H4 with TRAC off?
    4) H4 With VSC off?

    TY.

So the SR5 has options 1-6. Can you please help me to fill in the blanks?

    1) H2 TRAC = normal street driving on a sunny day
    2) H2 AUTO LSD (VSC OFF to 30 mph) = ??? (I would assume I would quickly engage this if it starts raining heavily and I feel some slipping on my tires correct? Not sure how useful this would be, what would I use it for?)
    3) H2 VSC OFF = ???
    4) H4 TRAC = when I enter a beach or am driving in the snow on a paved road or driving off road
    5) H4 TRAC OFF = ??? (I assume I would engage this if my tires start to slip on the beach or on a snowy paved road, or on off road gravel, and then I would quickly hit the VSC off button once to see if it will stabilize, correct?)
    6) H4 VSC OFF = ??? (I assume I would engage this if I am stuck in the sand or stuck in the snow or stuck off road, and trying to get out from a parked position, correct?)

Ive read that full post and am still not 100% sure why I need to turn off VSC and TRAC when stuck in deep sand.

    This makes perfect sense:
    1) H2 for normal day to day (with VSC + TRAC on)
    2) H4 for driving on beach and in snow (with VSC + TRAC on)
    3) And turn off VSC and TRAC in H4 if I get stuck in sand/snow (but I still dont get why, technically I mean).

Bottom line though - I feel much more comfortable with the SR5 now that I understand the traction control options. The rear diff lock is only for extreme stuff like a wheel off the ground, and it seems like most people go for ATRAC anyway on the TRD Off Road.

For beach driving, it appears that SR5 + H4 + TRAC would be acceptable. Not as good as L4 + ATRAC, but it will serve my purposes well given that I wont drive on a beach everyday and only have really bad snow ~2 months of the year.

Can you guys please help to fill in the blanks for #5 and #6? Ty guys.
