Just spent 1700 on my taco to have a new head put on it cause it cracked, the mechanic said the antifreeze was bad and let the head freeze and bust. Now it's still mixing anti freeze in the oil so the block is also cracked. I've decided im just going to put another motor in it instead of trying to find a bottom end and have some one put them together for me. I've found some decent priced ones from about 1800 rebuilt to 2200 new from japanengines. I was also wondering how hard it would be to put a supra 1jztt 2.5l twinn turbo in it I can get one of those for about 1300.

Did you tell the mechanic to take the head off and give you your money back?

You'll have more help if you post in the 1st gen section.

What engine? I'm assuming 4cly since you said cylinder head, not head, 2.4 or 2.7L?

The guy had my truck for almost two months and I dont think he'll back out on the probably 8-900 labor charge. And I'm afraid if I told him to swap them back it would take him another month im just going to sell the motor when I pull it for the head and w.e else some one wants on it.

oops guess I clicked the wrong fourm, And its the 2.7l 3rz and from my checking around im looking at around 3-4k to buy one and w.e other parts I need and pay some one to put it in. That's why I was thinking the supra twin turbo set up would be awesome if I could get it done for around the same price. But living in southern ky idk any where near me that has knowledge of doing a swap like this.

Did you pay him to diagnose the problem or did you just take it in and ask him to put a new head on it? It should not take two months to put a new head on it.

If he told you a new head was going to fix your problem and you authorized him to replace the head based on what he said then he should stand behind his work.

I paid him to diagnose it and it did have a crack in the head between the water jackets on the 3rd and 4th cylinder and it took so long cause he's an older mechanic that drives a school bus in the evening. I took it to him cause he's done alot of work for me over the years and it's always been good. It was alot slower this time cause he had to fire his help and is working alone. Unfortantely when he got the truck back together and running it was still getting antifreeze in the oil so i figure when it froze it busted the block to.

Take it to a Toyota supra specialist, or drifters with nice cars, if there available in your area they will be able to do it easy. The only deciding factor is if there is enough room for the engine. Should be.

I'm thinking maybe the timing cover is cracked, or possibly worn through from the timing chain like the 22r/re's liked to do. If it did indeed freeze, a cracked timing cover is very likely.

It could be I honestly I have no idea I just brought the truck home today and its running really rough I probably drove it enough before I realized what happened to hurt the bottom end. I'm probably going to put another motor in it or try and find me another taco to buy.
