plus if you use it all the time in humid conditions you will get mold on the filter.

    Hey OP... Consider this....

I had a friggin' mouse (or something) that made my cabin filter their home... The bastard(s) ate the cross-member of the "shut-off" mechanism so that there is now NO complete shut off of the outside air..!!!

My 2 flaps that are supposed to close the intake cannot now do that..

They close against nothing..!!!! The result is ....... outside air all the time... if you want less try to close it, but you still have outside air coming in...

    Check that if'n y'er concened....

Yes. It smells for a while, but you get used to it after a while. I asked a guy that works there how he could stand the smell. He replied that it all smelled like money to him.

Same thing ($) said down here in Tennessee regarding paper mill. Can sometimes be smelled 60 miles away. Good thing our wind direction varies enough it isn't constant.

    To bra and vr6pilot:

I've noticed that over the years my truck's AC recirculate has gradually lost its effectiveness at keeping out exhaust and other outdoor smells. When the truck was new it did an excellent job at keeping out all of that stuff. Now, it's probably 65-75% as effective as it used to be and I change my cabin air filter regularly. It's probably due to degraded foam/weather stripping on the air duct flap/valve/door that shuttles between outside air and recirculate. I suppose you could remove that old weather stripping/foam and replace it with new in order to form a better seal. I've been tempted to do so myself but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. If you do, let us know how it turns out.

Perhaps you could get some closed cell (so it won't absorb water) foam mat from Home Depot or Lowes, Ebay, Google. I've seen it with a pre glued side. Just cut to size and stick it on....

Yes, my 2005 tacoma v6 has the same problem. Even though the air is off i can feel air coming out the vent and the if i have it on recycle air the outside smell gets inside the cabin and im asthmatic I can’t be breathing in the outside air.
