I'm going to be driving to Montana from Alaska this spring and want to pick up a Goldwing in Washington and drive it back up to Alaska with it in the bed. I'm planning to reinforce my tailgate but wanted some advice from TW. It weighs 850 lbs. I have a 2005 AC long bed.

If you don't have air bags you will need them, my BMW at 550lbs squats my 08. I built a rack with a wheel chock, the front of the bed is plastic. The 2x10 is a great idea, I would just add a wheel chock to the boards.

700 lbs of dirt bikes in the back of my '14 and it was sagging pretty good.
