Never seen a tailgate on a Tacoma go bad either :notsure:.....Now if it was a Ram....well they can go thru three rusty tailgates in 100,000 miles

steal it because theirs was stolen
    steal it to sell it
steal it just to steal it (vandalism)
steal it because they want your b/u cam
steal it to sell your b/u cam
steal it because they know you and want to screw you

It's a form of vandalism that's cheap for the vandal and expensive for the owner

one of the first mods I ever did were the washer and hose clamp for the tailgate.

for extra protection, I added a pop n lock just recently.

never too late though, once you get the tailgate replaced, get these done.

a BIG middle finger to the Toyota engineer/designer for not thinking of putting a simple tailgate lock!

They steal them because they are easy to steal. It is just like the Ttops from the 80s. The ones with backup cams bring more money on the black market so they are more desirable. They went through my neighborhood one night a while back and stole every Ford spare tire they could. Luckily I had a lock on mine. I was the only one with a spare come morning. First thing I did when I bought my Tacoma was lock the spare and clamp the tailgate.
