Well I had my tailgate stolen out of my driveway right after dark.. Sucks soon as I bought the truck I told myself to put the hose clamps for added security and I just never got around to doing it

I do alot of fishing and had buddy go get my truck to back down the trailer about 2 months ago and hes not to good at backing up so he lowered the tailgate and made a sharp turn and put a nice crease in it on the top of it with my winch. I was planning on getting it fixed or replaced by him so this kinda just makes it sting a lil more!

Its black so the thieves couldnt see the crease in it with it being dark out so I'm sure they are thinking they got away with nice new tailgate

Yep, TX has one of the highest tailgate thefts in the country. Tailgate security was the first thing I set out to do when I got the Taco. I may not keep them from getting it, but they're gonna have to work for it.. it won't be a grab and go.

So, wait. I guess this is a total noob question and a pretty ignorant one. What the hell is the point of stealing someones tailgate? I mean I guess sure, if you need one, you'll just steal someones. But I can't imagine a person that lets say has a 2014 tacoma going and stealing someone else tailgate. My thinking is if they have a 2014 tacoma, they are a bit more responsible than that. Which leads me to believe its tweaks. Which brings me back to my original question... Why?

Oh and sorry to hear OP. Looks like i'll be doing the tailgate theft "mod" after this...

    Sorry OP.

Tailgate theft does seem odd to me...just proves some people are fucking losers and, if it's a symbol of the rest of their lives, don't deserve to walk around with rest of us. I know of a case where a POS family lived off government assistance, stolen property (including 150+ tailgates found in their attic) & dope dealing. Of course, for the thief to have success there needs to be an equal low class buyer. A real eye opener for me because up to that time, I'd never ever considered having a tailgate stolen.

I'm a little surprised Toyota doesn't offer a lock, rather a buyer uses it or not...???

Even though I wasn't and am not overly concerned with tailgate theft, I still installed the clamp.

Sorry man. Since these aren't vin specific, I was thinking about printing a label with my vin number and stick it somewhere only I would know. I have a clamp on mine but if it does get stolen, I'll have proof. Just thinking out loud.

I don't understand what people do with the tailgates... Why do people steal them anyway? I never heard of anyone stealing them from around my area.
