Someone smashed into me the other day. Need to replace my back bumper, bumper cover, driver side tail light, a support and step pad extension whatever...
Bottom line my insurance company is insisting that they are going to use jobber parts for these items. I'm not happy. I drive a quality vehicle why would I want that on my Tacoma. I know its nothing mechanical but still
    Thoughts please thanks

Read your policy and talk to your agent. That will tell you if they will authorize OEM or aftermarket parts. I've seen where some companies will only authorize junk yard parts, even on low mileage new cars. If your agent is worth anything, they will fight to have your truck fixed correctly.

I'd rather used junk yard parts than new jobber to be honest. I've been fighting with them all afternoon. Not a new vehicle i'm driving that is why. Will I see a difference with that crap?

some insurance companies charge like 6.00 more a month to have oem parts. you still have to follow with body shop to let them know.

It all depends on the law. In Texas you have the right to have who ever you want to work on it and put OEM parts back on it. In your country I have no idea of the law. So why is your insurance paying for it instead of the person who did the damage?

    Things I need to tow.
You probably don't want to get too many here started on their satisfaction level with auto insurance companies. The cut-rate ones with the largest TV advertising budgets are the cheapest outfits I've encountered when dealing with claims. They'll fix your vehicle at no cost if you take it to their "authorized" facilities (who will use the cheapest parts) or they'll pay you what they estimate it will cost to repair (using the cheapest parts) so you can take it somewhere else where they'll insist you pay the difference. Laws vary from state to state, so know your rights. Over the last 40 years, I've fought several insurance repair battles and can say that on vehicles with minor damage, I've taken the repair and lived with it. On vehicles with major damage, I've taken the repair and traded the vehicle in as soon as I could.

Most likely they will be fine, but I have one thought. Here in BC, all repairs though an ICBC (Insurance Corporation of BC) claim carry a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle. I'm not sure if Quebec has the equivalent to ICBC, or what their policies are, but you could check.

Probably be okay but still not the quality of OEM parts. Plus they are disounted to shop up to 50 to 55 % . Ask shop if you can add any difference if you really want oem or maybe just certain parts that tend to rust like chrome bumpers. Also add a rider for oem for future problems. :(:(

I smashed my front bumper on my old s10 and replaced it with a non-oem bumper. It rusted 3 years later. Use oem parts only! I learned the hard way.

According to my insurance if it was 3 years old or newer they would use oem my truck was just in a wreck and I know the body shop but toyota has a program for body shops so you can get toyota parts for your wrecked car at a discounted price so you don't get cheap aftermarket stuff from my wreck the only things that were aftermarket were the radiator condenser trans cooler and tie rod everything else has toyota on it

    Some stuff...
I feel your pain. I had a fuggin Wal-Martial smash into me on Thanksgiving day in the parking lot. They were at fault speeding and cutting across the parking lot illegally. The responding LEO affirmed this but since it's private property, he could not file a report - only facilitate the exchange of insurance information. Being law enforcement myself, I fully documented the scene with pictures that were submitted to my insurance company as well as copious notes. I have yet to hear a final determination four months later!

Called my insurance company yesterday to check on the status. Based on the evidence my insurance company determined that they were at fault; however their insurance company (of course) denies that claim, my only thought is the driver's statements which were bold-face lies debunked by my photos.

Anyways, moral of the story is insurance companies are businesses in the business of making maximum profits. Don't expect much, I don't.... :(

Pretty much stock with some crap welded to it.
I'd upgrade to aftermarket steel bumpers so it won't happen again.

I feel your frustration as I have gone through the same thing on my old Tacoma and am currently going through it now with my wife's Fiat.
With my wife's Fiat, I chose the body shop, and they are eating the cost difference between an OEM bumper cover and an after market one. The cost difference is only $90.

You could talk with your body shop and see if they will do the same. I'm sure they prefer to work with OEM parts as the fit and finish is better.
Worst case scenerio you could pay the difference out of pocket, I'm not saying it's right or fair, but for a couple of hundred bucks if it makes you feel better about your truck, it maybe worth it.

    Shawn
