How does this install with the new leaf pack? is it easy to install shims once the collar extension is installed?

Install is easy, get a couple channel clamps and put them on the spring and clamp them down so the leaf pack doesn't separate, undo the centering pin bolt on the nut slide it out put shim on and reinstall.
You will have way more pin now to locate the axle to the springs with the addition of the 3-5 degree shims. Easy!

    Thanks,

    Brett

That applies to the type of shim that the centre pin goes through , in that case there is no need for the collars , the collars allow for the slide in style of shim

Who offers the slide in style shims? Toyotec and wheelers seem to only have the one that gets bolted with center pin..

other question is what's the maximum amount the noob can stick out so it goes into the axle?( How deep is the hole the noob slides into)

    Toytec among others

Having the collars on and not using shims produces no issues

What happens if you put a slide in style shim with no collar or no replacement center pin? The leaf pack is secured at both ends and bolted down to the axle with u-bolts AND the axle has that piece that sticks out to keep the U-bolts from moving.

Maybe nothing, maybe your axle comes loose while speeding down the highway. I think I'd spend the $8 not to find out what could happen.

It's not the $8, it's the time and effort to remove and re-install the leaf pack. Does the collar attach to the center pin, or does the collar sit in the spring perch?

My leaf pack just has a nut on the bottom side. The centering pin was cut flush with the nut. Are you saying that the collar slides over the nut without having to clamp the leafs and install a new longer pin? Or do I have to remove the pin and replace it with a longer one and the collar goes in like a washer before the nut?

The pin head is on the bottom ( axle ) side , the nut is on the top , if your pin has been cut flush with the nut you will need a new centre pin

Take a C clamp , clamp the pack , undo the nut , remove the pin , the collar slides over the pin an goes against the head of the centre pin , pin goes back through the pack , reinstall nut , unclamp pack

Man do I wish I did this before I put the leafs in. Thanks for the info and the pic OZ. For a guy who is not a mechanic this is a major PIA. I think I will try the shims with the protrusion on the bottom side and just slide them in and see if it actually fixes the vibe and then if it does, I will remove and replace the pins. There's still quite of debate about whether I need to shim my pinion down to 0 degrees to be parallel with my TC output or shim it up like most on this thread are talking about. This blows.

You don't have to take the leafs off the truck. If you're taking the ubolts off to get shims in there anyway, with a little more work you can put the collars on.

Have you tried the carrier bearing drop yet? That's much easier to put on and may fix your issues.

bumping this, How does the collar extension work when you put shims on? Do you have to take the center pin out again or what?
