I loosened up my driveshaft carrier bearing a while back to try shimming to help with minor vibes at 20mph after installing my lift. I'm usually good about marking positions before taking crap apart, so I'll chalk this slip up to no alcohol being involved while working on the truck.:p

I got both halves of the driveshaft aligned dead nuts centerline so all is good with the side to side (lateral) position of the bearing.

My question is about the front to back position of the bearing since the bracket has slotted holes and the bearing is slightly flexible. Should it be bolted back down in its relaxed position?

Is there any reason why I would need to push the bearing forward out of it's relaxed spot and bolt it down like that? I'm afraid that mounting it under pressure may cause the bearing to wear out quickly. Since the driveline will have significant movement maybe it is designed to some flex though?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Installed a Ome spacer kit yesterday, I took out bolts installed spacer and bolted back up no vibs, so I think you will be ok.

They do have some play in it but the torque specs for those CB bolts is 27 ft/lbs.

I swapped my carrier bearing a few times and I always just made sure it was dead nuts side to side and bolted it in the relaxed position front to back.

I turned the DS so the grease fittings on the U-joints were level. Then ran a piece of string from the from to the back. Then sat underneath the CB and eye balled it to line up with the sting. Torqued to 27 ft/lbs.

    Hope this helps

Thanks guys. It seems the relaxed position is the proper way to fasten her back down. Now I can relax too. :p
