So after a trip to the dealership for a free oil change; I noticed that the little black rubber cap under the oil filter gutter drainage system was never put back on. (The little rubber cap you pull off before putting a bottle under the filter drain system) I've tried searching Tacoma World and Google under every possible name I can think of like: "tacoma oil filter drainage cap", "tacoma oil filter drain plug", etc. Does anyone know what it's officially called? Or where I can buy one from?

Also, should I even be worried about not having it? Seems like it might prevent oil from dripping out of the filter drain system after an oil change. But not sure if I should even worry about it or not, what do you guys think? Does everyone still have one on your truck?

I wouldn't worry about it nor replace it...I'm at 130,000 miles and haven't had it since the first change. It's just to release the oil in the filter anyways when doing the oil change.

Cool, thanks guys! I was actually thinking it might be better to not have it on. In case I ever just throw the oil catch bottle under there and forget to take that cap off.

    This^

when draining the oil from the filter take some flexible rubber line (like fuel line) and put one end on the nipple, and the other in the oil pan, no oil will drip on parts that way.

Its nothing more than a glorified vacumm cap. If it really bothers you go to an autozone and look for the vacumm line caps. They come in all kinds of sizes.

I took mine off because when I clean my engine the water doesn't drain properly and causes corrosion inside the oil catch.
