I'm going to look at a 2010 Tacoma for sale with 23K miles on it and the supercharger was installed from the factory. What should I look for on the supercharger/engine for excess wear and tear? Are there any points I should pay special attention to? Thanks.

Chances are it has been driven hard if it's lived its life with a supercharger on it, and you won't be able to tell the majority of the wear because it will all be internal.

If it's the one in Littleton, it's good to go. I looked at and drove it several weeks ago. If I didn't need a double cab I would've bought it.

You never know. But if you had boost would you drive like a grandma?

Just because its supercharged doesnt mean its been driven like a jackass. I have boost and I drive like grandma 90% of the time. Only time I really get into boost hard is freeway on ramps once I hit speedlimit throw it in 6th and just cruize.

I wouldnt be afraid of it especially with low miles.

Not everyone is responsible. It's like wondering how a Skyline or Supra has been driven. You may get the occasional guy who babied it, but for the most part people are going to be hard on it. My 2¢.

If it was installed by the factory, it has a warranty. That is a thing of beauty. Check if it still has factory rubber. If tires are worn down, the truck was used pretty harsh.

You got nothing to fear. If you like it, buy it.

OP doesn't appear to have any need for a truck because…

    1. He has a huge peepee
    2. He won't go off road
    3. Probably has a sweet purple camry or something already
    4. Can't grow a beard to save his life

Listen for metal/metal clanking together at idle maybe?

Don't the rotors make more and more racket of the yrs and wear and tear?

Get measurements of aftermarket pulleys, and take a micrometer and measure the pulley that's on the snout. If its not stock, then u may have a truck that's been beaten on.

Look for chuncks of rubber under the fenders, alone the fender well, under the bumper, the gap between the bumper and tailgate (iirc), the area around the spare tire, and the exhaust..... These parts can become covered in a THICK layer of burnt rubber in no time with the HP, and its a pita to scrub off in some of the tighter areas.

If its auto, pay attention to how it shifts..... Does it slip? Does it hesitate and then SLAM into the next gear?

If manual, check for clutch slippage.

Check rear diff fluid..... Takes 5 seconds.

Air filters....... The engine should NOT have a white filter like a stock Tacoma... It should be the TRD filter and gauze.

    Check the oil

    I guess you don't.

    This is mine.

I bought it on Monday. I looked at the one I referenced about two weeks ago. The sellers name is Adam and I'm Jeff, hence my username. The one I looked at has 28K on the odometer, not 23K. It was a nice truck and was just trying to help you out. If it there had been any red flags, I would've said so. I think it's worth you time to go look.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, none of the SCs are 'factory' installed as your OP states. They can be dealer installed which gives you the full warranty. If you install it yourself or have someone other than the dealer you get a 12 months parts only warranty.

I'm considering doing my new one as it's a really nice improvement. Not sure it it's worth the $7k to have done by the dealer. Which is really the only way to do it on a new/newer truck. The advantage to buying it used is the original owner takes the depreciation hit as the SC doesn't really help the resale value in relation to the initial cost. None of the car appraisal sites even have this as an option. IOW, you can get a bargain when buying a used Tacoma w/ the dealer installed SC. But I would also have the concerns you may have.

I haven't shopped at all. But that's what I recall it approx. cost w/ installation by the dealer. I think you can get the part for around $4,000-$4,500.
