Okay guys, need some help. I changed what I thought was the oil yesterday and apparently made the big newb mistake of draining the trans fluid. Didn't realize it until I drove about 25 miles. Waiting on neighbor to tow me home as I type. Tranny was acting weird and I finally pulled over and did some research after it wouldn't really shift out of 1st. Anyway, assuming a tow to the dealer is my best bet as it sounds like tranny flush process is a bit complicated. And yes, I feel like a complete idiot!

Too many people are doing this, Toyota should have put some kind of placard or tag near the drain plugs. But then again, it's easy money for the dealerships.

25 miles in 1st gear? That must have taken a while. Probably should've known something was wrong right away

Measure twice, cut once... maybe too many people assume they know what they are doing when they really don't. I don't think Toyota can fix that.

So, do you have about 10 quarts of oil in the engine then if you never drained it? 25 miles with little tranny fluid. Oooooh my.

Taco trannies are sealed systems. There is no dipstick to check. You may not have a Tacoma truck if you have a red tranny fill plug in the engine bay.

Check your truck's badges to see if it's a Tacoma or a Tundra.
