Best tailgate locking solution? Right now leaning towards PL5400. Opinions please.

Pulled the trigger on the PL5400 last week and installed it on Sunday. The issue I am having out of the gate is that when I shut the tailgate hard it seems to partially engage the lock and I have to use the key to get in. Before anyone tells me to not shut the tailgate so hard, we all know that you need a certain amount of force for the tailgate to latch all the way. I am not slamming it shut by any means. Before I open up the gate again, has anyone else ran into this and found a fix? Thanks

I paid on a Monday and had it on Friday in NY. I never received any correspondence from truckalterations.

Have not had this problem again, seems to be working fine now, although I do keep a coat hanger in my under seat storage just in case it seizes up.

Where in central NY are you located?

Truck Alterations drops ships most items from warehouses. Not always the best on followup, but they react quickly and you should see your stuff quickly also. Good prices and good service! (not affliated in any way .. .. .. just a well-read and satisfied customer).

Just installed my PL 5400. Installation was very easy and took only 15 to 20 minutes. I do agree that it's not a strong as the factory tailgate latch. But I don't think you can beat it for the money.utu8y4ug_e8c83d3a9b612bff3ee495651c0161925ef1d8d6.jpg

I've been using my PL5400 for a few weeks now. Install was easy after watching the YouTube video a couple times. Took longer to get the tailgate apart than it did to actually install the PL5400. I've got a Rugged Cover hard folding cover and I'm glad to have the PL5400 to go with it. Yes, it does feel a little flimsy when opening it, so I hope it holds up over time.

I got my PL5400 yesterday (from Amazon) and installed it (using the YouTube video for reference). The video indicated that a Torx "T35" was needed for the tailgate screws, but I quickly figured out that a T30 was what was actually needed (confirmed at an auto parts store). Installation took less than 30 minutes. Coding it to my truck key was easy.

The quality seems fine, at least for now.

I ordered the PL5400 in conjunction with a BakFlip G2 (also from Amazon).
