Anyone have any info on these? Is this hardware called a "footman loop"? Did Toyota just start putting these on the Tacoma?

In reading through various threads in here about tie-down points/mods, I've never seen these mentioned. My truck has them, and I'll use them to haul my dirt bike, if they're made for something like that.

Did you buy your truck used? From what I know (and I could be wrong), those are not OEM and looks like someone added them. What's holding them in place... backplate or just a nut? Either way, I doubt anyone here will know what the load capacity is. Since you have a shortbed, you're better off using the link above.

They will work just fine for your dirt bike.
They are factory equipment on the 2014 Tacoma.(and maybe the 2013 )

Thank you! That's what I had figured. I actually come across that thread awhile ago.

What do you think of the JP Metal Fab "Hook-Ups"? http://www.jpmetalfab.com/products.html
If I was hauling two bikes, the angle of my tie-downs would seem to be better placed, with those. The rings on my Sierra were really low, so with two bikes you'd have to cinch them really tight to prevent any side-to-side rocking, since the straps were nearly vertical.

This is a brand new truck I picked up from the dealership on Saturday. All of their Tacoma pictures have those in the bed.

And I also have a least 2 D-rings from factory in my 2014, don't know if that was the case before

I've cinched tie downs on 'em before with no problems. Definitely add some d-rings though.

Yeah, up though 2011 they just had the D rings. In 2012 they got rid of a cubby that was near the cab of the bed and installed those newer tie downs instead.

    Pre 2012 bed with cubby:

Thanks for the reply. Do you have these, and did you use them for that purpose?

    To haul a dirt bike?

I like the idea, but nothing will beat a sturdy d-ring in the bed bolt. Those bolts literally hold the bed to the frame and are the best form of structural tie down you can get with these composite beds.

All these guys telling you that those little U clamps in the bed are fine to put a bike in without knowing the rating of it or the weight of your bike should be ashamed of themselves.

If your doing 80mph and rear end someone it's your wife and kids that will be eating the bike so what do they care? Seems everyone always thinks of best case and never worst case.

The cost to install a couple of D-rings in the bed is nothing compared to the cost to fight a lawsuit for gross negligence because you strapped your dirtbike to a dinky little tiedown that popped loose and let your dirtbike go through somebody's windshield on the highway.

I can totally understand that. Thanks again.

It no big deal. I had no plans to hit the road like that without doing my due diligence. Basically just wanted to hear about other peoples' experience since I'd never seen those loops in previous threads.

you will have no problems with those loops in the front... i trust them way more than the D ring tie downs in the back... both are just held to the bed through the fiberglass. nothing more.

like stated those came on 2012+ trucks after they got rid of the cubby holes.

So you're saying these are bolted onto more than just the polymer bed?

I've easily put two bikes in the bed on these front mount points and haven't had any issues in a 1600 mile round trip.

x3..Not sure about the front footman loop specs but from what I recall, the bed D-rings are rated at about 440lbs each and the cleats 220lbs each...Go with the D-rings.

are you an engineer? or just some guy on the web guessing with other people's safety?

So the loops in the composite bed are stronger than the bolts holding the bed to the frame? Please explain...............

    I think he is saying....

This is very important... one of mine is seized and Ive tried breaker bars, every penitrant possible, heat, 6 different impact guns, and NADA. I have to cut and drill it out which is going to really suck.
