I think my old lady may have bought me a TRD intake for my birthday coming up here shortly, lol. Although I man really excited about it, after doing some research it looks like people have had problems with them making the engine run lean, or at least making sensors go off. This is kind of bothering me considering the intake is coming from Toyota, one would think that there would not be any issues!

I am aware that there is a "new" and "old" intake, and i'm sure the one i would be receiving would be a "new" one. I guess i'm just asking how people like the intake and whether or not it has given them or others any problems. Thanks..

I was looking into getting an intake but several things kept me from it. The only real bonus is its sounds and looks cool. It has been proven on here that it does not noticably boost HP. No CAI is going to filter as well as the factory one.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
I have the original design TRD CAI for the 05+ taco.
I installed it at 39,000 miles.
My truck just crossed 140,000 miles last week.
    Everything seems to be fine.
Should be safe to assume the newer design from TRD will be ok as well.

I clean/oil the filter every 15k-30k miles depending on how dirty it looks.
My average MPG did go up by a small fraction (1mpg or less on the highway).
It won't ever pay for itself in MPG but I like the loud noise it makes.

The issue of running lean with the new version TRD CAI can be solved by shortening part of the intake tubing. This youtube video shows you what needs to be cut down and why.
