Dealer changed my oil the other day and the guy comes out telling me I need a 400 dollar oil pan because the drain plug is all stripped out.... What?!?! This truck never leaks! And they do all my oil changes! So the guy tells me that this is "normal" I asked my son and he told me to say no to everything and get the truck back but the guy was adimant on putting in an oversized plug and he said he'd work with me on the price and I told him no you won't, ull put it in free! This truck never leaked before now! So they put it in and said it MIGHT not work and if it don't I gotta pay for new oil pan. I'm writing to Toyota, and giving them a call to complain about this dealer. And to top it off they spilled oil all over inside my skid plates so when I got home oil spilled everywhere in the driveway! It was pooled up inside the skid plate! It's ridiculous! If your in south Jersey STAY AWAY FROM TURNERSVILLE TOYOTA

'Normal' wear and tear is brakes, tires, belts.. etc.... not oil pan threads.

Good for you for not buying their story. It still sucks though.

I'd love to hear their responses to this. That's terrible! Good luck on that and thanks for the warning.

I guess it's normal if they use an impact wrench on it.

I've got 160k on my first gen, no stripped oil pan bolts here. I do my own oil changes though. Don't fall for their B.S. and give 'em hell!

Stripped oil pan bolts is not normal. for any vehicle... Even a VW where you need to replace the trunk and the back bumper to change the oil or something retarded like that.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Yup 187k here, no stripping. If they have done all your changes, then there is no way they are not at fault. As mentioned above, oil pan threads are not normal wear and tear.

If they stripped it, I would make them replace it, period. If they stuck a larger bolt in the hole, its just a matter of time before it begins to leak.

I would not accept the truck back until it is returned in the condition that you took it in.

Stripped threads are not normal. Someone overtightened or cross threaded the plug. Make them replace the pan or it may bite you in the a__ later on.

One important thing to check: The jackoff that stripped your threads is most likely the same jackoff that spilled oil ON the engine.... do check to see if you have the correct oil level on your dipstick.

The kid probably never added the extra to the crankcase.

Idk whats been up with these Toyota dealers lately... they have been just terrible.... I thought mine was good until they charged me $130 for an alignment, in the express lube section no less, and wanted $115 just to aim my headlights.... what? Someone in the service department must be smoking some of that good stuff Lol. Oh and I brought my corolla to the dealer once for an oil change and it was overfilled by a quart.... doyyyyyy

Regardless of the dealer saying that it will need a new $400 pan to fix the situation, you can easily fix it yourself for a fraction of the price provided you have the know how and the proper tools. All you need is a helicoil thread repair kit , new drain plug, and a tube of RTV ultra Grey gasket sealent and to drop the oil pan.

I did this exact thing on a buddies 2008 4Runner because he stripped the threads on the pan. It took about an hour to complete the repair and that's including bullshiting with each other the whole time.

It really is normal. This is what happens when your truck is serviced at a Toyota dealership. I know I know. Your gonna tell me that all dealerships are not the same. The sad truth is that they are. And your gonna tell me that your truck never had a problem before. I have been to 3 dealerships in my area for service and they all provided me the same poor service. Sooner or later your gonna pay that extra amount for Toyota service. It's just a matter of time.

It is only normal if it is over torqued. So since they have done all the oil changes they need to pay for a new oil pan and the replacement.

Precisely why I do my own maintenance on all my vehicles. I have the "Free Maintenance" plan on my truck but free isn't free when they fuck shit up. I know when I do it, it is done correctly and it is done the way that "I" want it done. Unless it is something internal or electrical I refuse to let anyone touch my truck.

Good luck to you OP. Hope everything works out okay!
