anyone with the second gens have to replace their tank straps yet? mine busted on the way to work today. i'm not sure if i want to attempt it myself, i still have yet to crawl underneath it today after work and see what part broke etc...

advance auto parts doesnt carry an aftermarket one, i'm still looking around but i may have to go to the stealership for this one.

easy replacement, you should not have a problem. Use a jack to support it.

if its all rusted though i may take it somewhere. depends what broke, i'm assuming there is just some bolts fastening those straps to the frame?

and of course, last night i topped off the gas tank so there is a full tank sitting on the broken strap lol

Yes just a few bolts holding the strap that supports the tank, should only take a few minutes to swap out.

since i dont know exactly what the setup looks like underneath the truck, is it feasible to ratchet strap the rear up to the frame until the parts come in? i know i've seen this done 100's of times on older trucks. i wasnt sure if the tacoma frame setup would allow the same thing. id like to still drive this truck while im waiting for parts since this is my only vehicle

i ordered new straps from toyota, they'll be here wednesday. i can use my fiance's car until she gets back from her work trip, but after that i'll have to drive my truck to work until Friday afternoon when i hopefully get a chance to put the new straps on.

Here is my temporary setup until then:
