I might be forced to get a new Tacoma. There are enough for sale that I can be fairly picky. So which is better?!

I want to turn it into an overland all-terrain vehicle that I can take on very long trips in the middle of nowhere. I only have my wife as a passenger with no early plans on children and rarely have a third passenger. But if I convert one of the seats of the double cab into extra interior storage space, I can have waterproof access to supplies.

    What do you guys think?

I prefer the AC (which I have). I don't like keeping much in the cab because it's hard to keep it quiet. I HATE having stuff rattling and squeaking when I'm driving around. Plus, I like to be able to recline the seat all the way for rest-stop naps. :D The long bed is nice to have too. It's about 1.5 feet longer but seems like much more. For us...and for the same wheelbase/overall size, the AC was a much better choice than the DCSB. Just depends if you like more bed space or more cab space. It's that simple. Good luck!

Access Cab. More bed space and you still get interior storage behind the seats. To me bed space is more important than interior space. Also aesthetics.

I prefer access cab with bed cover. You can fit a air mattress in the bed and there is plenty of storage in the cab. Double cab if you ever plan on having kids.
Either way a bed cover or camper top is a must

If i had it to do over i would have just went with a base AC 4wd as my starting platform. Adding air lockers and whatever else i wanted. But at the time i thought that the TRD OR package was the cats meow and all i could find that was affordable was a 2wd. I sad to myself, self thats all i need. I knew i needed 4wd but hell i though the 2wd with a locker was great. Its just ok and gets me through 75% of shit but now im kicking myself.

Go access, I have a car seat behind my passenger seat and take my 3 year old to daycare every morning and he loves it because I fold flat the front seat and he can look out the windshield. Plenty of room even when my wife is in the truck.

    Go access with canopy Jerrysphone4-9-2014056_zps5f6d6118_7012b3077062f568cd414adefebd8cd6a4d43b0f.jpg

IMO either the DCLB or AC(LB) are your only options as they actually have a bed which is going to be pretty useful in an Overland (ish) vehicle. DCSB is a no go for me as a Pickup. Makes a great tool for guys who don't really need the bed, but you're going to want that space.

    AC
    or
    DCLB

    those are your options

And "no stock locker" is easily remedied with an ARB :D

Short bed seems just as poor an option or worse than "short cab" IMO. (for that specific purpose)
