    2013 4 door, tx ed. Sr5 6 cylinder. Less than 5k miles.

I've read that 2000 rpm is the sweet spot for mpg.

At that rpm, I'm only doing about 49 mph.

    Really?

Is it a AT or Standard. If it is an auto. Make sure you are in 5th an not 4th. Something doesn't sound right.

In 6th on stock SR5 (non-trd offroad) tires I go about 2500 RPM at 75mph indicated on the speedo.

At 50mph indicated in 6th I go about 1,500 RPM.

    5th?

I think mine only goes up to 4th! Oh shit, Toyota left a gear off! Haha.

Nah, but unless I'm an idiot (which I've done stranger things) and over looked something think it only goes to 4th.

Also my tires are a bit low but I can't see it making THAT much difference.

I picked it up used about 2 weeks ago. I hope I didn't buy someone else's headache.

My last full tank only got me 263 miles (mostly stop and go traffic) but it's not liked I was dogging it. I thought I had been relatively easy on it.

If you have an automatic you have a 5 speed trans, if you have a manual you have a 6 speed trans, both being paired with the v6. The 4-banger has fewer gears if I recall.

    V6/auto here - 2k = roughly 65mph

Assuming you have it in "D", I wonder if the PO had it regeared for taller tires and took the tires off when they sold it.

What size tires are on this truck? Also low tires will use more gas as well as wear your front end and the tires. That being said unless the previous owner put some really small tires on this truck and or changed the differential or your tack is off, you either have a mechanical problem if it is an automatic or you need to shift it into 6th if it is a standard.

If the tires are stock and it is an automatic you need to see the dealer as it is still under warranty.

yes i was kidding, i drive it in 4d

17" wheels with the stock BF goodrich tires that i think are the Rugged Terrain T/A P265/65R17

Im glad you said that it could have been re-geared. i was wondering if that was a possibility by electronic mod, and hopefully not actually a mechanical change.
after driving it a while, it does feel like it just doesn't quite reach the highest gear...like its always just slightly in a lower gear.

im going to take it into the dealer this week and have them throw a computer on it.

you can't "re gear" electronically. You can adjust trans shift points and such but not gearing.

you are either in D or 4th. I turned about 2k at 65 in my 2009 same for 2013. There is no 4D. You are either in D which will allow shift to 5th or in 4th. I turn close to 3k at 70 on 4th. 2k might be about right @50

    no 4d?

if thats the issue im gonna feel like a fool.

I have 2L, 3, and 4D on my shifter. Ive been driving with my shifter in the 4D location but only the number 4 lights up on my dash indicator. Not the D. When I am in either 2L or 4D, only the numbers light up on the dash indicator. so if i am in 2L, only the 2 lights up and again if in 4D, only the 4 lights up.

is there something ive overlooked? maybe a tow button or like that will take it from 4, to D? I know my chevy had something like that.

although ill feel like an idiot, i hope its this simple.

    Im gonna check at lunch.

If I'm reading what you just posted correctly, you're driving in 4th.

On the shifter, it's 4-D, not 4D. Keep the shifter "to the right" and it's in D. Keep the shifter "to the left" and you have it set in 4th.

    That's how mine is.

Slide the shifter to the right from where you have it currently - the "D" light will come on.

Problem solved - no harm (other than wasted gas)
