Hello all. I am wondering about everybody else's gas mileage. I have a 2006 Tacoma Access Cab V6 4x4. I have a leveling kit and 265-75-16 with stock TRD wheels. It also has an ARB front bumper and an AFE CAI. I am very light on the pedal and baby it as much as possible. I am only getting 15.6 mpg. That just doesn't seem right. I have seen people on here with bigger lifts and bigger tires and much more done to their trucks who are getting 18+ mpg. Just wondering what might be my issue and what I could do to get better gas mileage. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Is it mostly highway or city or both? Are you going up and down mountains? I'm in Fla and I average around mid 17's to mid 18's depending with mixed driving.

Sounds about right for the mods you have.

I am about 50/50 with city and highway driving. And no I don't go through the mountains. Mainly all flat and I dont do any offroading either. I guess I am getting the mpg appropriate for what I have done, but it just seemed low to me.

Yeah I am. Like I said. I've seen people on here with more stuff done than what I have and am getting better gas mileage. Its not big deal to me. I was just wondering what others were getting and if there was something I could do to get better gas mileage. I love my truck and I would still drive it if I was getting 12mpg. I just wanted others opinions.

You fuel economy sounds right for the mod but just to be sure.... How are you calculating mpg's? Are you recording gallons pumped and odometer at each fill-up? I always like fuelly for recording and they provide great stats. If you want to see what other Tacoma drivers are getting for mpg: http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tacoma

    back to bone stock.
Seems low to me. You made the truck heavier and your tires are a smidge bigger.

How are you adjusting for odo errors?

According to fuelly.com i am close to what I should be getting. And given the extra weight and larger tires I guess I am spot on what I should be getting. I found another TW member with the same truck and similar mods getting 15.5mpg. I suppose thats as good as it gets. I havent checked it yet on what I get strictly on the highway. I will check that next month when I head to AL. Thanks everyone for your responses.

i get around 18-21ish area with my normal commute. Depends on your driving. I use a fuel app to monitor my average mpg as well as a scanguage to monitor my throttle use.

a common one i use is fuelly? scanguage is good all around monitoring system for real time data. just plugs into the obdii slot by the hood latch under the steering wheel. Good for monitoring temperatures when you need to change the tranny fluids as well. I use it to look at throttle and mpg.

Thanks! I will be looking further into one of those. Seems like something I would be interested in. Seems like a great way to monitor my truck.

Have had a ScanGauge for 4 years, and very pleased. Please be careful if you get one - there are setup procedures that greatly enhance the accuracy, specifically adjusting for fuel use and also adjusting for accurate miles traveled, including periodically adjusting to compensate for tire wear (I do it about every 10,000) miles.

Use the Scanguage or another scanner that can view fuel trims to determine if you have problem. My mpg went from 19avg to 15avg. The fuel trims were sort of high. I found the PCV and crankcase breather hoses had cracks. I replaced them and mpg is back where it was normally at.
