My 2014 DC has the factory roof rails and rack installed. I moved my Thule kayak carrier onto the crossbars and everything is nice and secure. I haven't had any issues with slippage or anything else, but before I make a 450 mile trek up to Tahoe with my 18' long and 50 lb fiber glass boat I though I would ask you all for any tips or things to look out for on these factory bars. I always use two over the body straps and bow and stern lines.

You will be fine. Others will say the OEM roof rack is a peice of junk, but ive been carrying my Yak like that for quite some time now. No problems as long as you have both bow and stern lines.

I've run across those comments a few times but very little about why it is so bad, and under what situations.

I appreciate your input. Your results seem to be what I would expect from the factory rack, but with the odd folding behavior of the cross bars I was hoping to hear from a few folks with positive feedback, or a great bit don't do it!!! ahah

people badmouth the rack because it has a somewhat low dynamic load, but it is plenty for a kayak, ive hauled mine round trip from Maryland to PA and back a few times doing 70-80 on the highway with no problems at all, just make sure your yak is secure and your golden.

Do you have pictures of how you secure them to the stock rack?
