cold lower radiator hose

The temp has been higher than I like to see via scan gauge. I'm seeing temps I'm the 190s. Installed a new thermostat and had the dealer flush the system. It's still running hot IMO and for poppies and giggles I felt the lower radiator hose and it was cool to the touch. Not what I expected. What is the opening temp for the 4.0?

 

Well... The way the system works is hot coolant runs in the top of the radiator and by the time it gets to the bottom hose it SHOULD be cooler... otherwise the engine would fry immediately since it's pumping hot coolant back into the engine.

190 isn't very hot... I've ran over 200 sometimes when towing... I'm not sure on the opening temp of the thermostat, however.

 

my truck always reads between 189-192 always 190 about 80% of the time

4.0L stock thermostat is 180* and the temp sensor is top rear of the engine.

 

I read that the thermostat opens mid 170-180s. And the differences between the house temperatures is equivalent to holding a cold can of soda and a hot coffee in paper cup.... Seriously. Is there supposed to be that big of a difference?

 

Yup, pretty much.

 

Dayum! I never experienced that big a temperature difference between the 2 hoses on any other vehicle.
