You know who claims synthetic makes your engine last longer. The company's that make synthetic oil.

Actually in the long run synthetic is equal to or cheaper than conventional.

5 quart jug of mobil 1 synthetic is about $25 plus $13 for the extended filter at walmart. (Not that I'm a supporter of walmart, just a reference)
5 quart jug of conventional is about $17 plus about $5 for reg filter.

Synthetic change between 10-15k miles. Cost $38

    Conventional @ 2 changes for 10k miles. Cost $44

Math is correct and makes sense, but keep in mind that if warranty is still good, then you will probably want to stick with 5k OCIs.

Using synthetic and changing at a higher interval won't affect your warranty.

Do whatever you want! It won't hurt to run full synthetic. I use mobil1 and oem filters every 5k. Cost is under $30. Mobil1 is at walmart for $26 (I buy a bunch of it so I don't have to go back there!) and my dealer charges me $3ish for filters.

You're right that the max OCI is 5k, but it makes me wonder what it's based on. Whether it's because a normal filter has a shorter life or for another reason.

Actually if you do the research. There appears to be more wear metals that occur early on an oil change. This happens between 2000-4000 miles. The wear metals tend to taper off after that. I don't know the reasons.

If you use synthetics at 10000 miles intervals or conventional at 5000 you probably will not wear the motor out.

With sophisticated filtration you can go well beyond 10000 mile intervals. What causes motor oil to go bad is lack of filtration, or the protective base wears out.

Actually, the 4 cylinder engine takes more oil than the V6, about a half quart more.

In Florida you won't need synthetic oil your truck is fine using conventional. There are folks here in this web site that have used conventional oil and are already at 200+ k miles. I am at 140k miles and truck still runs like new using conventional Valvoline 5wx30.Just make sure to change it at 5k miles and use a good quality filter.

Your salesman was misinformed. In 2012 the 4runner got the new engine design that uses 0w-20 synthetic and calls for a 10,000 mile oil change but the Tacomas kept the old style. Common mistake people made. (Spent a couple years working as a mechanic at Toyota)

As for the original question your 30k service will be oil change, tire rotation, air filter, cabin air filter, spark plugs, possibly diff fluids(that one varied depending on years and options, I always had to look it up) Having the dealer to do it is up to you, but costs a lot more than it should. There are threads I think up on how to do all of those things yourself, it's pretty easy. As a side note, a lot of people skipped the spark plugs and the engine will still run, you'll just start to get lousy mpg and eventually get a stumble around 50ish thousand miles, least that we saw. It's only 30k because they are generic plugs, not iridium or anything fancy so they're usually pretty cheap. Just do yourself a favor and put that style plug back in, these engines do not like high end plugs at all.

Sorry, I see I went off on a tangent and actually missed the original question. There's no need to put synthetic oil in that engine. Synthetic is really meant for engines that have tighter tolerances in the engine for the oil to pass through, using it in a standard engine won't help extend the life of the engine any more than keeping on top of your maintenance. Your choice of filter is going to be the biggest factor. I would recommend sticking with Toyota brand, you can find it by the case online for fairly cheap. We did all our services at 5k with conventional oil and constantly had cars with 2 or 300,000 plus miles come through the shop.
