Is there a lot of side-to-side play in that slip joint? If not, then it may not be the source of your vibes.

Yes , over time , a leak similar to yours could cause the trans to shudder at low speeds .

Here are the 3 links you need to check your trans fluid at home . Each one of the links expalin how to do it but the more links , the easier it becomes
Fortech created an excellent write up on how to properly check the fluid at home . If you are interested to see if your truck is low , click the link below
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...nsmission.html

Here is the PDF from Toyota showing how to fill / check the fluid . Scroll down to page 18 for the details http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/pdf/A750E.pdf

havent really played with it yet, so im unsure of the slip joint movement. I saw the fluid and hopped on here. I went and got a new seal and some fluid so we will see thursday what happens, i will also grease all the Ujoints, there are only three that i can see on the drive shaft. is there anywhere else i should grease while im at it, its looking like thursday is gonna be my only good day to work on the truck this week so i want to get everything done i can

Ok so ive done some more digging on the internet and ive also heard that it could be spark plugs.. not sure if that sounds right but i guess i will check this too, might as well.. what could it hurt..

Also Carrier bearing.. which im not sure how exactly how to check other than lifting the rear end up and running it, and seeing if it vibrates.. found one for 67.00

Still need to check the Ujoints, but i found them from Rockauto for 10 a piece so thats not as bad as i thought it was gonna be.

... Also i have tried to diagnosis if its in a certain gear or something. No luck but all gears shift beautifully so i dont think this is an internal tranny problem. I have replaced the Airfilter in the last 4 months so i doubt its a lack of air.. No real mods to the truck have been done at all... guess i have alot to check on thursday haha..

alright guys.. so my day went from ok to worse.. So i went to take everything, it was going grand, until i got the seal out. Came out great, i can see a little split in the seal, so im thinking ok at least i know where its leaking from. Problem number 1. Advance auto stated that it was the right seal and it wasnt. So after calling around i found out i had to get from toyota. Closest Toyota place to my dads is 2 hours away. So I called toyota and they are sending me a new one.... I put the old seal back in so i could at least not leave it at my parents. Well everything goes back great, i start the truck up, lift the rear end off the ground to see if I put it in drive, if i can recreate the sound and vibration. I grease all the U-joints and so far nothing sounds weird. Well...i look under the truck and the Seal is worse now then before, it now drips as the drive shaft moves. F***......

How did you remove the old seal without damaging it such that you even considered reinstallation and reuse?

I have this same issue that you do and as part of my investigation I found my seal also had a slow leak (I was 1 qt low over 95k miles). Using a seal removal tool I all but destroyed the seal pulling it out.

I'm not surprised the parts house gave you a bad part. I called the dealership and was told there were a couple of seals that it could be. I had to give them my VIN to get the correct one.

Very very carefully!! haha... actually when i pulled it out all i had was a small tear of where it was originally leaking from..but i think i must have warped it somehow because it doesnt hold a seal now haha... Ya thats what i ended up doing is giving the guy my VIN number and hes sending it in the mail. He felt bad that it was a $12 part and would cost 15 to ship..so he dropped it in a padded envolope.. hopefully get here tomorrow.. i mean how hard could it be for USPS to bring it 1-1.5 hours away...:D

that's really nice he even cared about your cost, most people don't

maybe u tore it as you pulled it out

mine was leaking, only when my u joints were bad (truck vibrating) and then when i fixed that, the leak stopped too

alright guys a little update, got the new seal in yesterday, topped off the tranny, and put it up on jackstands and let it roll in drive for a good 25-30 min. No leak, drove it home yesterday and so far so good. ill report back if it leaks any now. I did notice while making sure everything was tight as it was supposed to be and everything was back in place that the center shaft support seemed to have more play in it than i would think. How hard is it to change this? am i going to have to get a new seal after dropping the driveshaft to change this?

BTW BIG shoutout to Gearcruncher for all your help and the links! worked like a charm!
