I have a new Tacoma 4x4 with the V6 automatic. So far, I love the truck, but I have noticed my wife's 2005 V6 4Runner seems to run smoother and have more power. My Tacoma feels like I am towing a boat all the time.

Her 4Runner has about 50,000 miles while the Tacoma has only about 800 miles. I am pretty sure the have different V6 engines, but still it seems odd.

Any ideas why they seem so different?

    Thanks!
    Ron

The 4runner has 3.73 gears. Not sure about the Tacoma.

One cousin owns 2013 dclb sport 4x4 and another cousin owns a 2014 dclb limited 4x4 and they feel heavy accelerating compared to another cousins 2013 dcsb trd 4x4. My 6 spd is a different story. Love the 6 spd.

My wife 2008 4runner 4x4 accelerates quicker than our 2012. The 2012 has 270 hp vs 236 hp that our 2008. The 2012 gets better gas mileage because of Eco boost or whatever it's called.

What? The 2008 4Runner has the same version of the V6 as your 2012 and same or really close HP rating. In 2010 Toyota put the Dual VVT-i V6 into the FJ Cruiser and 4Runner and those engines are the higher HP rated engines. Sorry but your 2012 still has the single VVT-i engine that's rated to 236hp.

Interesting. I wondered why my dad's 2010 FJ had alot more pickup than my 2012 tacoma. Plus his doesn't knock nor did it have a driveshaft vibe. I love my tacoma but it's far from a perfect vehicle...

Hit about 3,500rpm and you notice a significant change in the engine and it really starts pulling. Dual VVT-i kicked in YO!!!!!

2012 4Runner? If so I mistook it as you had a 2012 Tacoma.

What engine is in the 2008 4Runner? V8?

2008 had the V6, the Urban 4runner edition 4x4. Only reason we trade it in for the 2012 was that we needed a 7 passenger. Bought it for 31k and got trade in for $24,500. Had it for 4 years.

The 2008 V6 was rated to 236hp. May have been a weight and gearing difference between the two then.

Also op 2wd vs 4wd. you both have the same single vvti 4.0l v6

My mom has an 07 4 runner with 80k on it 2wd and it feels more free revving than my new 2013 4x4 dcsb taco with the same motor and tranny. but you have to also realize its still tight, it has 4x4 parts to spin as well as software differences in the transmissions / motors over the years.

The dual vvti 4 runners HAUL ASS, god i wish yota put those in our trucks in 2012.

On a side note.... my moms 07 v6 4.0l auto 2wd vs my buddies 05 v8 4.7L auto 2wd in a drag race.... the 4.0L has the launch and up to about 60mph. then the v8 will creep up.

Yay, 34hp difference!!! $5k+ to put the same displacement engine 34hp over stock.

I'm really curious to see what TRD can deliver in regards to the blower for these engines. It's already been on display during a FJ Summit and if I'm not mistaken... given away in a raffle.

    Ouch.

    Jealous much? It's showing.

    That's a stock tune/pulley. There's plenty more if you're willing.

My 2.0T in my 2012 Hyundai puts out 274 HP (more w/ 93/95 octane) at exactly half the displacement.
