Just wondering what weight oil everyone is using ???
I'm making a long road trip with the wife from san diego to Kansas city on two weeks and since it's all mostly gonna be hwy i'm probably gonna use a 5-10-w30-40 just debating since it's a mild temps this time of year but just gonna be hwy miles and time for another oil change when I get back

I run 5w-30 Castrol or Mobile 1 synthetic. I've used it in my cars for years and never had a problem. I've had BMW's over several years and they recommend Castrol so I always used it in my cars. Good enough for BMW's that run at 90 MPH on a regular basis on the Autobahn - good enough for my Taco. I'm sure you'll get several different recommendations. I don't feel that there is a great deal of difference between oil manufacturers.

How about using whatever oil your owners manual says?

    Geez...what a novel idea!!

    Run what the manual says.

    V6 takes 5w30
I4 takes 0-20 I believe. Not sure if that's all years or just the last few years?

It recommends 5-W30 but the owners manual also says (at least in my 2013) that for more hwy use it recommends a heavier weight oil.
Thus I ask but expect smart ass remarks haha

    Things I need to tow.
I use Shell Rotella T 5W-40 synthetic year round in all my vehicles. I know that Toyota (and all other manufacturers) over the last 20 year have trended to lighter viscosity oils to enhance their fuel ratings, but I've never bought into it. Just checking generic oil viscosity charts shows that a 5W-XX oil is rated safe from -30C to whatever high temperature you're going to encounter. If I lived in the frozen country, I'd likely use a 0W-30 or similar. But for where I live, what I use will cover all the extremes. And, I get little to nothing in the way of accumulation in my oil catch tank.

went with 10w-40 synthetic since i'll have a load and already pretty big and heavy truck plus there's some desert and mountainous terrain from san diego to Kansas city. But it'll be time for an oil change when I get back so i'll go back to 5w-30 synthetic.

I always go 5W-30 because it's what is recommended. When doing x-country road trips, I always change it again before heading home. Cheap insurance.

This. Not sure what your 2013 says exactly but my 09 says "SAE 5w-30 is the best choice for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather." It goes on to say you can use 10-30 if you can't find 5-30 but that if you do that you should replace it with 5-30 the next oil change.
