Just bought my dream Tacoma after having a Prerunner for years. I going to do it right with coilovers and adventually UCA's 2.5" to 3" mid travel lift for 33's.

I'm leaning towards Fox with reservoirs. I can get the back shocks for less than Kings and I figure mine as well have them match...

I heard that Kings, and Fox are the better than the rest. I've also heard Kings are better than Fox. I'd like to hear what you think are the best and WHY or if you think there is no difference...

    Thanks...

    Icon.

Fox are overrated, and King isn't what they used to be.

Icons are digressive, which combined with the 650 lb springs means the ride is rougher than stock over small pavement cracks and expansion joints. However, body roll and dive under braking are also significantly reduced. Over larger bumps the Icons are very cushy.

The Icon VS 2.5" rear shocks are badass:

I feel like kings are the best but thats just what ive seen and experienced the most. I want to like icon bc they are toyota specialists but people race kings and they have proven themselves over and over. I have to go with the facts and i think kings are better. Too bad sonny will never comment on this for obvious reasons.

I really think they are all good choices. I know a friend who has had kings twice and switched to icon recently. All different vehicles but he likes the icons the most

That is so old there is not much to talk about.....no reason to bring up 4 year old stuff my friend. That part was rev'd about that long ago.

Based on the serial numbers....well we are past 40k for this top cap.

Kings, Fox, Swayaway, all use a generic valving for the Tacoma. Icon has actually had the shocks valved specifically for the Tacoma.

    A few bolts are different.
    Source.

Thanks for clearing that up. I honestly still think about that every time upgrading coilovers floats through my mind.

Whenever I think of upgrading, I think of Fox's website that says I'll need to take my truck apart every three months and send my shocks away to get rebuilt. (I run 40K/Year). Are all premium coil overs like this, or just Fox?

If it's used on road only. If I was on road only, I'd drive an Accord. A fair percentage of my mileage is on gravel roads, so I'm guessing the interval would be shortened. Even sending them out once a year would be a pain in the butt. My stock front shocks ($200/pair) lasted 90k before having to be replaced. One would thing that given similar use, a set that costs eight times as much would last at least as long...

I wish I could get a handle on a realistic number, as the purchase price doesn't really bother me, but the hassle of a frequent service interval does.

Roger 40-50k road miles is realistic to keep them in optimum operating condition. We service shocks weekly and we constantly have our service form filled out saying that they are at 80 -100k+ miles or 5-8 years old never having been serviced. Is this ideal, not really, but many go by if they are not leaking and feel ok day to day then they are fine not servicing them. It's your choice at that point. We put recommendations out there relating to what I first said.

    Hope this helps a little.

My Kings ride extremely nice. And they were quite a bit cheaper than Icons. I would buy them again.

In terms of rebuilds, as with anything the answer is "it depends." The harder you work them, the more frequently you'll need to rebuild.
FWIW I got 20,000 out of my fronts before I blew a few seals and the oil was baked.
