    This is correct

My 13 i4 is changed every 5k. The maintenance required light comes on after about 4500 miles. They also need to change the oil filter every 5k with the 4cyl. Might be different on the 14s though.

    Working on it now....UNDER CONSTRUCTION
More frequent oil changes means increased wear metals.

This is also very wrong. EVERY 5000 Miles or EVERY 6 Months. This includes the first change also.

I had all 5 of my "free" oil changes and I only have 13,600 miles on the truck.
I had them done Every 6 months.

No. Every 5K miles or Every 6 months. There is no discussion on this. It is in the service manual as such. Yes it is 0W20 Synthetic oil.

I don't get it, are you saying he's right or wrong? What you posted confirms what he said.

    You're wasting your money.

But it is still a 5k change interval.

I really don't get the confusion. As others have said, the 4 banger, at least the '13 that I have, came from the factory with 0w-20 synthetic. The manual clearly states OCI is 5K miles or 6 months....even with the synthetic juice. My guess is that Toyota assumes that a truck may be used under severe duty conditions. So to play it safe, they say to stick with 5K/6M OCI's.

Now....to get this thread really stirred up.....I use Mobil 1 and a Purolator PureOne filter.

All of the above is incorrect.
All of the below is correct.
    No different for the '14.
    Apparently not.
I don't think the comment was directed at you, but at those that insist that synthetic always = 10,000 miles.
Waste of money and natural resources.
No auto manufacturer has recommended 3k oil changes in more than 20 years.
Toyota used to allow 7500 mile intervals, 5k was for "severe service" only, but as they facelifted the dash modules and added the idiot light, they eliminated the 7500 interval.
That is why the tech bulletin above indicates that models for which 5w20 is optional will continue to require 5k intervals... and the Tacoma will continue to require 5k intervals.... likely until the dash is redesigned with the next generation.

The Toyota oil life monitor is simply a stupid counter that flashes at 4500 and comes on solid at 5k. It is not like the GM oil life monitor that actually analyzes driving conditions (my Duramax would ask for a change anywhere from 8k to 12k)... so Toyota can't have the light trigger at 5k for the 4.0 but 10k for the 2.7.
It's not about how long the oil will last, it's about Toyota's lawyers.

Took my 2014 2.7 in today for the 5,000 mile service. They cleared the "maint req" light and rotated the tires but Did Not ....and would not change the oil. They said it was every 10,000 miles. Talked to service, parts and sales and all 3 said the same thing
