So what else are they doing wrong there? That would go on your service record that you changed your oil every 10,000 miles instead of 5,000 miles. I don't think I would want that on my record.

Per the Toyota Oil Chart for 2011: "The 2TR-FE 4-cylinder engine (4Runner and Tacoma) is an exception to this new change interval program; this engine has NOT been approved for the 10,000 mile interval at this time. A 5,000 mile oil change interval is still required for these vehicles." Requires 0-20 oil too.

I read that- just don't agree. Full synthetic oil should be fine for 10K miles. I don't understand why this engine would require twice the oil changes. It is decidedly LOW TECH and doesn't run at high stress levels.

Well I'm not sure either but my truck is under warranty and I'm going to do the oil changes as the manual states so as not to screw things up until it is off warranty. But hey I firmly believe it's your truck and you can do what you want.

Doesn't matter what we agree with. Toyota dictates the terms of our warranty.

Also, if you look at the spec, your BMW does not permit "off the shelf" oil... even the Mobil-1 available OTC here is not suitable.

Correct- this is why you get oil that adheres to the spec required. The oil used in the Tacoma isn't anything special. On the other hand the 10W60 full synthetic used in my Z4M is harder to find...

Hi all.....Bought a 2014 tacoma cash deal and I have read several issues on 2014 oil change issues on 2014 V6 taco's. I have been to the dealer and have called Toyota customer care about the scheduled oil change's. Is it 10,000 miles or 5000 miles?? Toyota C.C. told me 5000 miles called my Taco dealer was told 10,000 by one guy and then went down and was told by another guy 5000 miles. Then I called several other dealers and same thing one guy says 5000 and the other says 10000? My sales man told me 5000 miles before I bought the truck and my book shows 5000 miles. This being said, what a bad experience on my first toyota purchase. Bait and switch and scammed is what I feel at this point all because of the deceitfulness of Toyota for oil change's. I have an appointment with an attorney and will go from there.

Holy good fucking God! An Attorney over a oil change? You honestly think they are being deceitful and don't want to do a 15 min oil change on your truck?

Let me give you another scenario if I may... How about the dealership and certain people working there don't have a clue when your oil should be changed? Shocker I know but it happens. Service after the sell is hard to come by these days which is why "I" do all my own maintenance on my vehicles because I don't trust the dealer to even rotate the tires (long story).

But hiring an attorney???? Don't be one of the DB's that does that over something so frivolous. As a fucking oil change. They are not playing "bait and switch" with you. So many people are so quick to sue it makes me sick. I see it all the time in the line of work I'm in.

If you had a real issue then yes... I say go for it. But a fucking oil change??? Jesus Christ

I like to think that he/she is not being entirely serious. Gotta have more than a few screws loose to seek legal action over something like this.

I'm not insistent on 10K Mile interval, and I read the manual that the Tacoma requires oil change every 5k. Having said that, when I took my 2013 4 cylinder tacoma in for service under ToyotaCare at 5000 miles, and the dealership DID NOT change the oil. They said the first oil change is at 10K, and it appears that my maintenance schedule is in agreement - there is no mention of an oil change at 5k miles in the maintenance schedule. So, there is contradiction in the manual and the maintenance schedule.

Toyota tells me to go every 5k and thats what the manual says. I usually go about 4.5k and they take me.

The exact same thing happened to me; so, it's not just one dealership issue. There is a contradiction between the maintenance schedule and the manual. Toyota needs to address this.

That is what prompted me to ask the question, what's the point in going to 5k mile intervals when the 1st one was at 10k. Many vehicles go on 10k mile oil change intervals. I've decided to split the difference and go every 7500 miles. I do 2000 miles a month and not a lot of stop and go traffic, and keep it under 2500 rpms; so, I'm confident my synthetic oil is holding up.

+2, my dealer was kind of opposite. Sales guys thought all Tacomas had synthetic and required 10k changes. One of the service writers thought same but he was quickly corrected. Can you sue someone for being stupid? No wonder the courts are all backed up.
