painted chrome grill longevity

I have seen threads about painting your chrome grills. I'm curious if it lasted and how'ed you do it. I've only seen methods that didn't work.

Use adhesion promoter before you primer. It helps allot with sticking to Chrome.

I wonder if you have to remove the "chrome" completely or just scuff it up really good

 

I recently went to a paint shop and asked about painting my chrome grill. The guy there said that in his experience, it doesn't hold up over time. But, he just talked about scuffing the chrome, applying primer, and then painting. He also said that sanding the chrome off entirely isn't a good idea. I can't remember why he said that though, sorry.

I would think if you use an adhesion promoter it will probably help quite a bit. And it seems like quite few guys on here have done that.

 

I scuffed mine up REALLY good and used the adhesion prompter (linked above). Holding up great!

 

For the price of a new one and what I could get for my used chrome (seems on ebay I could have gotten even more), the $80 net expense was well worth it to me.

Compared to the cost of your truck it's nothing. I spend 2 hours a day in traffic; painting a chrome grill was not an effective use of my time. I'll sell you mine!

Last time I brought it up my manhood was challenged. And the color matched perfect. 10 min install at the most. Oh, I used my cordless drill too.

I've got some chrome steps I'll sell too. Replaced them with bolt on sliders that I had powder coated before they arrived. I'm sure that makes me more of a wuss. I should have made my own.
