My '09 DCLB TRD Sport pyrite mica Prerunner just turned 100K today and I couldn't be happier with it. Changed the serpentine belt and plugs at 90K. Change oil with high mileage oil every 5K. Kept up with all regular maint except radiator and diff fluid change; not sure I really need this. I don't tow (yet), and it is my daily driver. See my sig for mods. Anything to look out for?

    Water pump.

I had some evidence of white "splatter" on my power steering reservoir and AC compressor. Never found any wetness or saw dripping on the ground, never saw the level in the reservoir drop, so I figured it was something I picked up off the road and the belt slung it around.

    Nope.

Took it to the dealer for the spiral cable recall, and they did a complete inspection.
In addition to a fuel injector cleaning, throttle body cleaning, and oil change, they said that the water pump was shot.
Rather than paying them $500 to do it, I bought the pump, plus serp belt and both hoses at Camelback, couple of gallons of coolant from Toyota, and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (all they would do is put the stuff in the tank and tell you to drive to as near empty as you can).
    $300 and a Saturday afternoon.
The old pump was not rattling, but there was a lot of crust around the bottom.

2009, even if your water pump is good, it's time to replace the coolant. Its effectiveness does wear off, as well as its corrosion protection.
Diff lube is cheap insurance. Probably not a big deal, but it won't hurt to change it.

BTW: There is no need for high-mileage oil on any Toyota with less than 500k on it ;)

Thanks, Rich. Is the coolant change a DIY thing or better at dealer/shop?

You can get away with just doing a drain and refill from the radiator.
It won't get everything in the block, but it'll get probably 60-75%.
If you want, you can crawl under and open the block drains for a complete replacement.

100,000 that's great, when you make 200,000 get back to us.
That will be something to crow agout.
The last truck I owned had over 200,000.

These trucks are more than capable of going over 200,000
I would say just do go ape Sh%$ crazy on mods, some owners that do make a mess of things.

At 100k you might be coming up on the front wheel bearings if you haven't done them yet. The front crank seal is also a problem on these trucks.
IMO the coolant doesn't need to be replaced.
The front struts and rear shocks could be considered being replaced soon.
IMO you might not need to replace the tranny fluid yet, just check the level and color/smell for burned or not. I just did mine for the first time at 142k miles and the fluid was still clear red and did not smell burned.
Clean your PCV valve it's an easy 10 minute job.

160K on original water pump, Front bearings where replaced at 150K (one made noise but did both anways). But going back to the W/P, I should just do it anyways considering how much I drive.

4.0 might be better, but mine is not the first 2.7 WP that has failed at around 100k.
My wife's '04 Rav4 has 140k on it and it's been weeping for quite some time.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I don't need to change the tranny fluid as that was done at 75K due an unfortunate error on my part; won't go into details:cool:. Front wheel bearings are still solid. Any other suggestions?

Didn't you drain the trans fluid thinking it was the oil? Then add trans fluid to the radiator? I think i remember reading about it.

Be careful running high mileage oil for long amounts of time. Look up the horror stories. High mileage oils have conditioners that soften seals. Great for a few oil changes, but I wouldn't run it forever. Apparently the oil doesn't ever stop softening seals, and can cause seal failure

    100K is 'Just Broken In'.

Call us back around 250 ;)

That said, a flush n' fill of the rear end might not be a bad idea either, if its never been done. Depending on your driving habits, of course.

I did mine after a flood and some .... uhm... James Bond diving, I mean driving....at 40K, so I'm good for a bit :spy:
