My dealer charges me for the washers as well, which I find annoying, as my previous dealer would automatically throw them in the box for free. They would also give me 10% off.
Some dealers are more accommodating then others, and I try to go to my old dealer when possible.

What gets me more frustrated is that if I drive over to Niagara Falls, NY I can buy parts on the US side for almost 50% less then here, and fill up with gas for 30% less.
Even my truck I bought on the US side was almost $13,000.00 less.
I'm lucky it's such a close drive for me.

Whom do we have to PM to get a dollar?

    Shawn.

Maybe I should have worded the title differently, but guess I will be checking out the Fumoto valve. Being that I go 5k miles between oil changes I didn't want to take any chances for leaks.

Just so you know I am in sales too. The issue is you have a customer that is requesting service. Most people know already the cost of the parts. The service provided should be reasonable.

Plus, if I send my wife to get a part for me since she is already there for tire rotation, pricing should be consistent. You shouldn't charge more because a women is there.

Bought a brand new Isuzu Rodeo once and went in to redeem one of the free oil change coupons they had given me. They then informed me the "free" price did not include using a "GENUINE ISUZU BRAND plug gasket (their words)". Extra $5 for that, otherwise they would use some inferior aftermarket brand. I said go ahead and use it. Never changed a gasket before in my life and never had a leak either.

Out of curiosity, is the drain plug thread size the same as the spark plug? :D

Dealerships don't have set prices from Toyota that they honor for parts, otherwise they wouldn't be so able to negotiate.

Today I went into an AutoNation dealer to get part 42444-35050, an outer axle gasket, basically a piece of cardboard. Toyota's list price is $1.09, they wanted $3.04. I got him to sell it to me for list, but I asked him what the deal was, were dealers able to set their own prices for parts? His response was "basically, yes."

Price you pay for oem stuff. The copper crush washers for my YZ's are $2.03 a piece and no local hardware stores, lowes, etc. have copper washers that size. Like you I like to stick to oem specific things. There's a reason for R&D.
