Used your method today! Since it's hard to find D-rings with silver holes I just got some surface mount ones and cut out the D-ring portion.

FYI , if you slide one of the bed rail tie downs down to the end , they fit perfectly into the handle void of the MFC cans

Thats how I attached mine with a web strap

Did mine today. Hardware store only had 2 hole tie downs, so I just drilled a second hole and attached a small bolt in the second hole.

    Small useful for me stuff.
Just wanted to throw out a big thanks guys. I was searching for something cheap and came across this thread. I took both of your ideas and made my own little twist, it's rocksolid and just what I was looking for. I added a small strap across the top for ease of removal and insertion.

    Thanks! Doing this tonight!

Just got my rings in the mail. Went with some hefty 2" steel V rings ($13 for four). Definitely overkill, I know, but I figure I can always mount them somewhere in my bed with more support and use for heavier loads. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CGXSNC0

Scepter can is on the way. Found it for $20 ($26 plus shipping) from Global Industrial. https://www.globalindustrial.com/product/itemKey/30860148
