Get the 4Runner man! My dad got one and it rides and drives great! I personally like the Tacoma but if I didn't need a truck the 4Runner would be the vehicle I would have chosen.

Depends what you need. If I was shopping for a car it would be because there's already a truck in the garage. Since I would have a 4x4 already, I'd be looking for a sporty weekend car. This board doesn't want to know what my sporty weekend car would be, because it would be a domestic with a pony on the grill.

If you're replacing a truck and live where there's snow, the nod for me would go to the WRX.

    Good points

    I live in los angeles

So another concern would be if i had a sporty car i would get a manual trans.

Which might not be the best for LA traffic

Couldn't be more wrong sir. I had a '13 WRX base, was one of the most reliable, and enjoyable cars I've owned and driven. Everything on that car was vault tight, from the day I got it to the day I sold it. Only sold it because even at 35, married with no tickets, or accidents my insurance was more than the car payment.

My wife is on her second Subaru Outback, first one 2011 got totaled by 90's Chevy 2500 at 30 mph. She walked away un scathed. We replaced her 2011, with essentially an identical 2013. Gave her the option to pick anything she wanted from $25-$40k and she wanted another Outback because they are so durable, safe and reliable.

If you are referring to Subaru head gasket issues in the past, the company has long since fixed that, and it hadn't been an issue since 2005/6. Let's not forget also that Toyota owns shares in Subaru. In fact the Legacy/ Outback are built in the same factory as the Camry.

Knowing this info, a BRZ might be the perfect car. You have a ton of great driving roads for a car like that. Since your in SoCal, where traffic is a problem most of the time. Having 450hp seems like a waste, unless just to say I have 450hp.

I like the idea of the new WRX, people are often misled into thinking a WRX is for snow or off-roading. It's more about street or dry weather grip. To be honest, I found that the AWD sapped up most of the fun in good weather, but made the car entertaing when wet.

If I were you, I would just get another Tacoma and call it a day. But just to throw a wild card into the mix. $30k gets you into a variety of pre-owned Porsche's. When I got married in '07 my wife got me as a wedding gift an '88 Porsche 911 Carrera. Always wanted one as a kid, and it was both awesome and amazing in every way. She paid $22k for an almost mint, one owner 36k mile car with a maint history.

Had to sell it though a year later when kids came into our life, but if there is one fun car I could get right now, it would be another 80's Carrera, or BRZ with a manual.

Personally, I always associate WRXs or any kind of sporty subaru (aside from the BRZ/FRS) with douchey, snap-back/tanktop wearing teenagers. Can't stand em!

I would go for the Tacoma or the 4 Runner. Not a lot of experience with vehicles at my age, but I know I love my Tacoma. Know a lot of parents at my school who bought Beemers and then couldnt afford the maintenance. Subarus are lame. So I guess that leaves...Tacoma! Most capable one on the list for sure.

This... I had a 2011 WRX that I had modified fairly heavily. It never once gave me an issue, and the sound of the EJ motor with un-equal length headers is addicting. However, I plan to buy a house when I get back to the states and I am a DIYer so I traded my Subie for my truck. After the truck is paid off (within the next two years if I stay on track :D ) I plan to buy a 2011 STi as a project car.

Plus they look sexy as hell, this was my GR and I loved it...

The redesign is actually growing on me... The interior is a LOT nicer!

What a mix. First, decide if you want or need a truck. I like the 4runner and was almost ready to buy one as a family vehicle but found out they don't offer rear a/c and I wanted the 3rd row option. Deal breaker for AZ. No SUV should come without at least the option for rear air.

Need a truck? Not necessarily. Is it handy to have at times? Yeah

I don't usually have passengers, if i do it's usually one.

    No kids. Single

So i want to narrow it down to ONE car and ONE truck and pick between the two.
