Aftermarket Gas Cap => Check Engine Light & Traction Off

I installed a Motorad Locking Gas Cap before I left my Tacoma at the PDX Airport Long Term parking lot for 1 week (was paranoid about people siphoning gas).

The day after I returned to Portland the Check Engine Light and Trac Off warning indicators were lit on my instrument panel. I was thinking it was a bit early for error codes since the truck only has 6000 miles on it! My Innova 3030 Diag Reader returned error codes 0455 and 0441, i.e. emissions issue.

Anyway, I put my stock Gas Cap back on, which was the only recent mod, cleared the error codes and no more warning codes. It does seems strange though that a Gas Cap issue can disable Traction Control.

 

any MIL for any reason can disable trac

 

I have heard that some of the after market locking gas caps will do that . I have an after market locking gas cap and all is good . Can't remember the brad name got it from rock auto. As for the traction control . I'm not sure if they are connected. How know with these new modern day truck being all computer. It may be connected some how . I would run it with the stock cap and see if it returns .

I've driven the Truck about 6 times since I went back to the OEM Gas Cap and cleared the Error Codes. No issues.
